How to save money on gas (for your car)

Ok so we all know gas prices are insane and so everyone is trying to save money on gas by doing any number of crazy things.

Well, every once in a while I come across an app that is so helpful that I just have to share it with you, and today is one of those days.

With the high gas prices, most of us have been having to figure out how to adjust our budgets accordingly.

Just a few days ago a friend told me about this money-saving app that helps you save money on gasoline each and every time you buy it.

And while this app isn’t going to eliminate high gas prices, it definitely helps.

Here’s how it works:

1. You download the free app here

Here is what I see on iOS, but it also works for Android as well.

2. You open the app and look for nearby gas stations

As you do, you can see how much cash back you will get for buying your gas from that station.

Near my house, I found that the best ones were about 23-25 cents per gallon.

We actually didn’t need gas at the moment, but I went ahead and put in about 5 gallons just to test it out.

3. Select a gas station and click “claim”

Once you find the gas station you want to go to just click “claim”.

4. Go fill up your tank like normal

Now, you just go fill up (or put in 5 gallons in my case).

But be sure to use a debit or credit card and then also make sure to print a receipt as well.

5. Scan your receipt

Now, just pop open the app again and click “upload receipt”…

After you do the app will open up the camera like this…

Now just take a pic of the receipt and you are done!
(Note: there is also an option to check-in where you don’t have to scan your receipt.)

6. Wait about 24 hrs for the funds to be credited to your account.

About 24 hours after I scanned the receipt I got an email from them saying my cashback had been credited to my account…

And again, since I only put in 5 gallons in I only got $1.98 cashback, I can’t wait to use this with an empty tank to watch the $$$ come rolling in. 😉

And that’s all there is to it.

I am going to be spending the extra 10 seconds to pop this app open from now on to save our family hundreds each year on gasoline.

How about you?

That’s your money-saving tip for the day!

GasBuddy has a cash back feature too, but it requires entering checking account information. I wasn’t comfortable doing that. Does the GetUpside app require personal info like that?

I can heavily relate on this one as as price of gas here in the Philippines is more than 2USD per liter. Thanks for sharing this, I hope economy gets better soon!
