Does God care about your finances?

written by Bob Lotich, CEPF® | Biblical Personal Finance

I got this question from a reader the other day that I have gotten enough times that I thought it was worth addressing.

Does God care about your finances? Absolutely. Here's why...

The question, “Does God care about my finances?” often comes from a place of deep pain and struggle.

When the bills are piling up, health challenges strike, and it feels like you’re taking one step forward and twelve steps back, it’s natural to wonder if God sees your financial struggles.

The simple answer is clear: Yes, God deeply cares about your financial situation.

Not because money itself matters to Him, but because YOU matter to Him.

He cares about every detail of your life, including your finances.

Throughout Scripture, we see God’s heart for those in financial distress:

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.

Psalm 55:22

Make no mistake, this includes financial cares.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus”

Philippians 4:19

Notice it doesn’t say “some needs” but “all needs.”

And when Jesus taught us to pray, He included “Give us this day our daily bread” – acknowledging God cares about our practical, daily needs.

But I believe God’s primary concern isn’t just getting us out of financial difficulty.

Rather, His deeper work is often IN the struggle itself, where He shapes our character, teaches us to trust Him, and transforms our relationship with money.

A few more thoughts to consider:

  1. Your struggle isn’t punishment – it’s often preparation. Like Joseph’s years in prison before becoming second-in-command of Egypt, God frequently uses seasons of lack to prepare us for what’s ahead.
  2. True financial freedom isn’t about having more money – it’s about having trust in your Provider with all the provision you will ever need. Regardless of whether or not God God’s solution involves more income, you can know that His desire is for you to have His peace that passes understanding even in the midst of the storm.
  3. God often works gradually rather than instantly. While He can and does perform instantaneous financial miracles, He frequently chooses to guide us through a process of learning, growing, and developing new habits and mindsets around money.

Bottom line, if you’re wondering if He cares about your financial situation, here’s what you need to know:

  • God sees your struggle
  • He hasn’t abandoned you
  • He’s working even when you can’t see it
  • Your faith, even if it feels small as a mustard seed, matters to Him and can move mountains

And let me encourage you that the path forward starts with bringing your financial concerns to God daily in prayer, while taking practical steps toward better financial management.

Start small. Take one day at a time. Remember that God is more interested in the journey – in who you’re becoming – than in quick fixes.

Keep holding onto hope.

The God who owns “cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10) hasn’t forgotten you.

He specializes in doing “immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).

Your financial situation isn’t too big for Him to handle, nor too small for Him to care about.

The road to financial freedom may not be easy or quick, but you don’t walk it alone. God walks beside you, and He’s working all things – even financial struggles – together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Take that small seed of faith you have left and plant it firmly in His promises.

Watch expectantly for His provision, which often comes in unexpected ways. And remember – God’s not done writing your financial story yet.
