There are tons of ways to create a blog out there, but if you are looking to create a blog and actually make money from it, this is for you.
The sad truth is that many bloggers greatly limit their earning potential because of the blog platform they used to start it.
As bloggers who are pouring our heart and soul into what we write, we SHOULD be compensated for our work!
In this guide I am going to help you get set up on the right foot, so that you will be set up to succeed.
Why I think you should start a blog
In a lot of ways the playing field has been leveled with big media companies and bloggers.
You and I now have the ability to reach just as many (if not more) readers than big media sites with our humble little blogs.
Additionally, I’m fully convinced that each of us has something to share. There’s something in each of us the world needs to hear. Without getting too “Tony Robbins” on you, you have a unique set of gifts, skills, and experiences that allow you to offer some insight on something that few others can.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many authors, bloggers, songwriters, poets, and other writers who have had an impact on my life. You can never underestimate the power of what you’re writing.
And there isn’t an easier or cheaper way to do that than by starting a blog.
And since it can be a source of supplemental income, it can help you reach your financial goals faster as well!
Not sure what to blog about?
That’s okay I got you covered, check out this video below where we chat about:
- 4 ways to tell what you should blog about

How to start your blog right now
If you want to get started now, I put together a free tutorial that you can follow here to get started:

Watch the video above for details.
Step-by-Step Blog Setup Instructions
I recommend watching the video above, but if for some reason you can’t we have step-by-step instructions for how to start your blog right here:
1. Go to HostGator.com
I recommend self-hosted WordPress for bloggers (via Hostgator) who want to make money from their blogs. Hostgator is the host I use on most of my blogs and have used them for years. They are the best option I know of for new bloggers.
Go sign up for a webhosting package at HostGator.com (using this link to get your 45% off discount). When the HostGator homepage loads, click the button labeled “Get Started Now!”.
2. Choose a Domain
Enter the domain you would like in the “Enter Your Domain” section. (If you have already purchased your domain name, you can enter it in the “I Already Own This Domain” section.)
If available, it will show up in the list.
You will see a section that says Domain Privacy Protection with the box checked – I recommend keeping this for your domain because it will protect your online privacy.
But if you would like to save $12.95/year, feel free to skip this.
Go to domize.com and search until you find a domain name that is available (green ones are open, red ones are taken). If possible aim for one that has at least one of the keywords you would like to be found in the search engines for.
3. Choose a Hosting Plan
Now you will need to select a hosting package. I recommend the Baby Plan – that offers you Unlimited Domains – but the Hatchling Plan will do as well.
You can save more money by signing up for a longer term but you can pay month to month as well.
After picking your package type, you’ll need to enter your preferred username and security PIN.
4. Enter Your Billing Info
You will enter your personal and billing information in this section – you can pay with credit card or PayPal.
5. Add Additional Services
In this section, you can pick any of the additional services that you want but my recommendation is to move forward without anything additional at this time – you can always go back and add them on later.
Personally I don’t think you need any of these services.
6. Enter a Coupon Code
You’ll see your coupon code – SEEDTIME – is already entered to get you the 45% discount!
7. Review Order Details
Review all of your details and make sure everything is accurate. If it is, check the box stating that you agree with the terms and conditions (after reading them, of course…) and click Checkout Now!
Once your payment goes through, you’ll be redirected to this page:
Then once your account is setup and your order is complete, you’ll be directed to this page:
8. Go Check Your Email
You should receive two emails – one with login information for the billing and one with login information for your account.
When you receive the email with your account information (see below), click on the “Your Control Panel” link.
9. Control Panel Login
After clicking on Your Control Panel link, you will take your username and password from the email above and enter it into the cPanel to log-in to your control panel.
10. WordPress Installation
Once in the Control Panel, you will scroll to the bottom of the page and click on QuickInstall under Software.
You will find the WordPress install under Site Builders & CMS down on the page – click on WordPress.
You will pick your domain from the dropdown and click next.
You will fill out the Install WordPress form using your information – blog title, admin user, your name and admin email address.
Check the Terms of Service box and click the orange Install Now button.
Once your install is complete, you will see the page below which provides you with your URL Admin area, username and password.
You will also receive this information via email for safe keeping.
11. Accessing Blog Admin Area
If you see this page, it means your installation was successful and you can click on the green Admin Login page to get into your site. If you don’t see this, it means the DNS is still propagating through the internet. This can sometimes take up to 24 hours so if this is your situation, just jump on the chat box with HostGator (thats what you are paying them for) to see what’s going on and to make sure everything was installed correctly.
Once you are on this page, you will use your username and password from the Quick Install email that you received.
After logging in, you will be on your Dashboard! Mark this page as a favorite and save your log-in information – this is where you will go to update your blog, create blog posts, etc.
12. Learn the WordPress basics
If you used this guide to start your blog, just forward one of the emails you got from Hostgator (you can remove any login info before sending) over to Lauren (at) SeedTime.com and we will give you FREE access to our Start Your Blog Now course (retails for $77).
If you are new to WordPress, this is the perfect next step as this course will teach you everything you need to know about how to use your new WordPress blog.
If you have more questions about this whole blogging thing, just keep on reading…
This is a crazy world we live in…
Think about it.
You and I have the opportunity to sit in our living rooms with a laptop in hand and publish something that can have life-changing impact on someone thousands of miles away.
And since this same technology can be used for bad (and often is) I kind of feel a moral obligation to use my gifts, thoughts, and ideas to help make the world a better place.
My last 10 years
Starting a blog 10 years ago was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
I know that is a bold statement, but it is true.
5 things I have loved about it:
- It is the easiest way I know of to share the message that I had burning inside of me.
- It has a better earning potential than any other home-based business that I know of.
- It has allowed me to work from anywhere.
- It has helped me learn so much more about a topic I was already interested in.
- It has allowed me to get paid doing something I love while helping others in the process.
Is it too late to start a blog?
I get asked this a lot. Yes, there are a lot of blogs, but the reality is that while there is occasionally a benefit to getting in early, often it is a lot more work in the early stages.
This has certainly been the case. I have watched some of my blogging students go pro way faster than I did. And to be honest, the number of full-time bloggers that I know is staggering.
Additionally, when I started the tech was a lot more difficult – now you can run a blog an never even need to know a line of HTML code.
To answer the original question, I think it is more important to be your unique self with your blog today, but it is definitely NOT too late to start a blog.
And in many ways the opportunity for succeeding is far greater than it has ever been.
How to know if you should start a blog
Here are a few questions to consider:
Have you wanted to write a book?
If so, almost every book publisher is looking for authors who already have an audience. A blog is a perfect way to start building the audience while testing out ideas.
Do you have something that you just really want to share with the world?
A blog not only allows you to do this, but it can open up the door to other opportunities like: speaking gigs, consulting opportunities, book deals and a lot more.
Would you be okay giving up a few hours a week of Netflix?
I have seen many bloggers have tremendous amounts of success working only a few hours a week on their blogs.
Are you an expert or an enthusiast?
While this can help, more often than not I have found that “experts” don’t make the best bloggers. Typically, it is “enthusiasts” (someone who is really excited about a topic) rather than someone who knows a ton about it.
I think the reason is that many readers can better relate to an enthusiast who is a bit more like them.
For example, the biggest blogger in the Personal Finance niche admittedly knew little about Personal Finance when he started his blog. But he shared what he was learning as he was learning it and his readers loved it.
Are you a good communicator?
Lucky for us all, your writing ability doesn’t matter as much as one might think. I find it to be laughably ironic that English and Writing classes were always my worst subjects in school – and here I am writing for a living.
A more valuable skill is to be able to communicate ideas in a relatable way. There can be some overlap, but they are definitely different skills.
Can’t you start a blog for free?
Let me start by saying that there are definitely free options for starting a blog or website out there. Some of them are actually pretty good looking. And if you are just ‘testing the waters’ of this whole blogging thing, that may not be a bad route to go.
However, I strongly suggest once you get committed to the idea of blogging that you get a Self-Hosted WordPress site.
Here are 5 important reasons: (If you don’t need any convincing just skip this section)
1. You own it
When you have a Self-Hosted WordPress blog, you are paying for the hosting, but you also have full-control of your site. It is similar to the difference between owning your home and renting an apartment.
When you own your home, you call the shots, you paint the walls the way you want, and you choose the color siding to use. Where as when you rent, you are very limited in what you can do since you are not the owner. And the owner can even decide to sell and then you need to find a new home.
Blogger.com (owned by Google) has had multiple instances where the service was just down for 8+ hours. So if you used them then your site was down that whole time and you had no control. You just had to sit and wait. While unlikely, it is possible that Google could decide to shut down the blogger service or sell it to someone else and since you don’t own your blog with them, THEY have all the control and you really have no say in what happens.
2. Customization
If you don’t want to be limited to themes/templates/skins for your blog design, then Self-Hosted WordPress makes the most sense.
3. It is the biggest blog platform by far
According to WikiPedia there are over 60,000,000 WordPress blogs out there. Last update I heard was that over 30% of the entire internet is powered by it. Every blogger I am friends with uses WordPress. There is a reason that so many use WordPress.
4. Plugins
Another great thing about the WordPress platform is that there are tons of great plugins that you can use that will greatly increase the functionality of the site. There are plugins that will allow you to instantly convert your WordPress site into a store-front to sell your crafts, a membership site to teach students, a gallery for your photos, and a lot more.
5. Monetization
If you are interested in making money, Self-Hosted WordPress is the way to go. Many free options don’t allow you to run advertisements or limit your ability. This is just another reason that all the bloggers I know use WordPress for their blogs. There are actually many more reasons why I think this is the best long-term solution, but lets save some space and just leave it at that.
How I make money with my blog
When I go to family functions or social events I often get a blank stare when I explain what I do for a living. I think people understand the part that I write articles and put them on a website, but when it comes to making money from it, they don’t get it.
In this section I will lay it out and hopefully it will help bring some clarity…
1. CPC Ad Networks
There are a few different ad networks that I use. The most successful one has been Google’s Adsense program. Basically what they do is read the article that I write and find ads that are relevant to it and display them next to the article. The great thing about it is that by having extremely relevant ads, it actually can be quite beneficial to the readers as well.
For example, if I write an article explaining how we travel for free, but didn’t mention where you could open the credit card that allows us to do it, Adsense would likely be displaying ads of travel rewards credit cards.
So as a reader, if I read that article and decided that I did want to open a rewards credit card, the ads would be providing options that the article did not.
2. CPM Ad Networks
While Adsense pays on a click basis (CPC), I use other ad networks that pay by the total # of impressions (CPM). So they might pay for $5 for every 1,000 impressions.
Generally you need a lot of traffic to your blog to earn well with CPM networks.
3. Affiliate Product Sales
Basically an example of an affiliate sale would be if you sold lawn mowers and I referred a customer to you, if they purchased you would pay me back a % of the sale for referring them. There are a million options for this on the internet now. The main programs I use are
4. Books & Course Sales
I also sell a few of our books and courses on our site as well.
5. Consulting
Running a blog is a great way to build a consulting business. In the past I have offered consulting services and every single client came as a result of my blog.
How long does it take to make money from a blog?
The second question that people normally ask after, “how do I make money with a blog?” is, “how long is it going to take?”. Well, let me just say this, if you are looking for a fast way to make money, blogging isn’t it. It takes time and hard work. As you can see from the chart below it took me a long time before I was able to do it full-time.
But, for more than a year I was working at it about 10 hours a week. And don’t forget I didn’t know anything about blogging, advertising, getting traffic, etc when I started. So, if you know that SeedTime is a blog, then you have a head start on me. 😉

For those like me who always had dreams of starting a blog but had been held back by a fear of failure, I want to prod you to fight!
It is bigger than you!
The world needs what you have to offer and if you let fear hold you back, not only are you hurting yourself – but all the lives of those who you would have impacted in a positive way.
Never in a million years would I have dreamed of the number of people that we would be able to reach when I started my blog a few years back.
To be honest, it baffles me.
I had NO IDEA of the potential that laid dormant.
And might I suggest to you that you have NO IDEA of what could be as well?
Anyway, enough preaching for today. 😉
I am glad to be your #1 cheerleader and maybe this email will be the final push that you need.

Great primer on blogging for money.
I was stunned to hear that you increased adsense earnings $1500 in 3 months? Wow.. guess i need to do some more testing. 🙂
Yea, Pete, I was surprised too – I guess it was just because I was doing so many things wrong before 😉
Thanks for writing a thorough article about making money from blogs. I learnt something new and hope to test drive your ideas soon. Awesome article!!
Thank you so much for such a thorough article on the How to’s of writing a blog. I write for a website and have dabbled in writing for a blog, but I have never seen a more honest and thorough discussion of blogging and how to make money. I have been a subscriber to your blog for a couple of months. I thank you for such quality information.
Fun article to read, Bob. Just curious…was the $1500 increase due to one particular article or keyword getting hot? Or are you attributing it ALL to making the changes you mentioned (i.e. placement, segments, etc.).
Oh, and also…where is the Quicken Online aff program managed?
I’d like to go full-time in the next couple of years. I just can’t get affiliates to take off.
Thanks everyone – glad it is helpful! PT, I am sure some articles got hot, but some were getting hot before as well… I decided to spend a lot of time learning about Adsense and as I implemented all those things I learned I saw the increase… Like I said above, I am sure some of it was because I was doing so many things wrong – but the good thing for most adsense publishers is that they are doing things wrong that can be fixed pretty easily…
Thank you for sharing, getting the whole story from start to finish was very interesting.
Bob — amazingly comprehensive guide to blogging here! Thanks for sharing this info. It’s very helpful! Will be passing it around to newbie bloggers.
A very good article indeed. I think it’s important to point out how long it takes to establish a blog and develop traffic that has the potential to provide a full-time income. I think many people go into it expecting immediate results and are deeply disappointed when things don’t go their way.
Like you point out, it’s important to have fun and be passionate about what you’re doing. If you like to write about your topic, it will show.
What a great post! I am definitely coming back to read this over a few times. Thanks for the information.
In 2006 Steve Pavlina taught us how to successfully blog for income.
In 2009 we have Bob Lotich leading the way on the same topic. This article will be very successful for a long time to come, and rightfully so. The information contained herein is invaluable for the modern income seeking blogger.
Many thanks to you Bob for taking the time to share your knowledge and deep understanding of this topic with all of us. I am very appreciative.

Wow, this is a stellar resource! Thank you!
Very extensive article. I’m going to put it a few of your suggestions into action.
I’m also going to place a link from my website to this article.
I didn’t know about the who sees your ad plugin.
I’m also gong to try it out
Hey Bob…
If you don’t mind, could you let us know what your “Page CTR” averages are? This will really help give people a target number to shoot for.
Also, did any of the methods you employed above help you increase your “Page CTR”? What about methods not mentioned above?
Thanks in advance for this information.
DebtFREEk!
Wow Bob,
What an amazing story and article. I think most people are shocked to hear that you are making a living off a blog your size and also with you Adsense success. I switched to basically the same ad positions about the same time as you and I also saw my adsense revenue jump 300-400% although not near the actual levels you are talking about.
I bet you have a lot of bloggers questioning there site setup and monetization efforts!!!! I know I am.
Thanks for the great resource.
-The Happy Rock
I absolutely loved this article! You are truly an inspiration. I started out my blog just a few months ago because like you, I am passionate about Proverbs, but also teach personal finance classes at local churches and non-profits.
I only recently found your blog, but I love your content and am excited that one day I may be able to turn this passion into profit.
Thanks for being so giving!
Peace & Blessings
Bob, thanks for the great resource. I didn’t know you had gone full time. Congratulations! This is an article I’ve bookmarked and will come back to. It’s not only informational but it’s also inspirational. Thanks again.
Great article, especially for those (like myself) whose sites are relatively new and are stuck trying to get traffic, optimizing everything and still debating between blogger and wordpress. (I am seriously debating a move). This is an AMAZING resource for new bloggers!! Thank you,
-Matt
Thank you for a great article Bob. I will be coming back to this one for who knows how long.
-Matt
Such a great wealth of information – thanks for writing it, Bob. I will be returning to this many times over for knowledge & inspiration.
Thanks for the tips! They came at the perfect time for me, as I’m just starting my own blog. (I actually found you when you commeted on one of my posts at Savings Advice a while back.) I will definitely be coming back to read this post more thorougly and try out some of your ideas.
This is the kind of advice we pay $399 for with all of those “how to make money blogging experts” lol. Maybe you can start your own program “Bob’s Blog Mastermind.” All joking aside thanks for the great post, it is definitely a good source of motivation for a motivated newbie blogger like myself.
Excellent resource, Bob! There are a few things here that I know I can improve upon – thanks!
And congrats on your well-deserved success! 🙂
Thanks so much for the great article. Google adsense is a mystery you are helping to clear up.
If you are getting 20K hits a day as a blogger you should be extremely proud. I know some of the biggest forums out only get twice that daily. You are getting some amazing traffic.
What a great article! You’ve inspired me to keep going (getting a bit hard to stay motivated at the moment). I can also remember the thrill of the first adsense click and never thought I would reach the $100 payout limit (I now make that in one day at times)….Still, now it feels more like a business with taxes, admin and lots of mail to deal with. Formed my S-corp recently, which was kinda cool, but has also doubled my admin work.
Despite following a similar trajectory to you (in most parts) I know I learnt a lot from this article and if you are new to blogging this article is a must read. But to make money, you have to treat it as a business and write articles from that perspective. Combining intersting articles with revenue opps is the hallmark of a good for-profit blogger!
Very well written, informative post. I’ll be adding a privacy policy to my blog asap. Thank you.
very informative blogpost thanks so much
Well, it all sounds so easy! 🙂
I guess my problem has been never being consistent or really trying hard enough. Thanks for the great write-up. I already have several to-dos from just reading this once. I will dig in a lot more later.
Wow! Thank you very much! I can’t wait to get started…this is exactly what I needed to read!
Thanks for this great article. I started a personal finance blog about 6 months ago but am still pretty green when it comes to making money on it. I will be referring back to this post.
Hard to say more than those above me have said. You are truly a giving person when others may not be so eager to share. I found you through a mention at Simple Dollar. I’ve already gone and tweaked a few of my sites based on your article. I’m now a subscriber. Thanks again for a truly awesome article.
Thanks so much for sharing all this helpful information. My husband and I have just started blogging in March and we have so much to learn. After reading some of your content on your site I feel kind of like I know you. I really like your site!
Thanks again!!!
This entry of yours have enlightened me. I’m a programmer, yes, one of those that can create applications like wordpress etc, etc.
I’m a college student, and of course as any other have the need to find new sources of income, like just today my poor desktop died so it’s just my laptop and me.
I do thanks you for inspiring me to stop wasting time and use my talent and creativity, it’s admirable to see bloggers like you having such commitment.
An excellent post containing real information, believe me, many people that knows all this are greedy and have succumbed to its nature. Kuddos to you!
Just found your blog. Great article for beginners. I stumble upon successful blogs everyday, but never realize how well they perform. I am really impressed by your performance too.
Just what I needed for getting started! Thank you!
Good tips, thank you.
This was a fabulous article. As a frugal blogger, who like you, had no idea I could make money with my blog when I started, has been amazed at the potential for making money on topics that are just about sharing your passion.
i didn’t know any of this about AdSense, even though I am making money through affiliates/sponsors, and will be implementing this immediately (as well as adding a Privacy Policy).
Thank you for a great post! I learned so much! 🙂
Wow–so much to take in! Thanks for the great advise. I’m bookmarking this for (a lot of) future reference! I want my blog to be a testimony to the Lord, but I know I need to be a better steward of my internet time and efforts. Thanks again for the step-by-step approach!
Blessings, Linda
Thanks for the the information. I have implemented a few of the suggestions and hopefully I can come up with some time to digest the rest of the article in the near future. I have been running a blog more as an outlet than as a business for the last year, but have yet to see money from it. I think I need to focus more on my subject and network more. Maybe someday I can hope to be doing what you are.
Hey Bob- Will the who sees it plug in work with blogger? I love this idea but I’m not sure how to implement it!
Jana,
as far as I know blogger still doesn’t have plugin functionality. If you are really trying to make some money with your blog, I suggest switching to a self-hosted wordpress blog. It might be a pain on the front-end, but longer term it will probably be worth it…
Thank you for your generosity in sharing this great information. You’ve answered many of my questions.
Great information for someone like me that is just starting out. Can’t tell you how much I appreciate your generosity
Thanks you for sharing! I have not read it all, but the post was an answer to my prayers. I just came up with a name for my blog and was having an anxiety attack thinking about going public with my thoughts on the world wide web. What do I say? I had not thought about making money.
I went to WiseBread.com because they have a list of top financial websites/blogs. I wanted to review some of the others online. I ran across your site and then this post. It soothed my nerves. I feel like I can move forward with ease. I will continue to digest what you wrote and get the Dummies book.
Thank you!
The amount of time that you must have put into this article is awesome! It’s definitely a great resource for regular people looking to start a blog on a subject they are passionate about. That is the key to having a blog that makes money…write about something you love, because then you won’t drop it after a few months when you see that it’s near impossible to make good money blogging until years of hard work pay off.
This has got to be one of the easiest and most understandable articles I have read. How I even stumbled across your site, let alone read the in-depth article posted here is an achievement. You have summed up everything so well. I will certainly be implementing some of the advice given. Congratulations on this article and the blog. May you continue to receive the blessings that are so obviously abundant in your life.
That’s a really informative series of articles, Bob! I’ve been thinking about quitting my day job for a while but I haven’t had the courage to do so. I want to start going full time with my blog, but I’m not anywhere near my earnings at my regular job.
Keep up the good job! I remember when you first started your blog and asked me for advice. Now it’s me that needs the advice!
Thanks Bob for the great advice! I appreciate you putting all of this together in one easy to read article.
Thanks for the great article! For the last 2 years I’ve been promoting the resort job sites with moderate success. Recently I’ve noticed my page rank go from 3 to 1!
Your article is really going to help me get back to the basics and regain my page ranking! Thank you so much.
PS. It would be nice to get you thoughts on WordPress plugins as to which one are beneficial and which ones actually hurt you.
Bless you.
This is the best free information I have read about how to make money with a blog to date. Thanks for the blessing.
Very good post. Helpful and informative.
Blessings to you…
I’ve been thinking about how I might blog for pay, not big pay, but some pay. I started a blog for fun not knowing anything about websites or anything related to them. I’ve been writing there for about two months. I finally got a few minutes this morning to see what I could find on the topic of blogging for pay and I found your article. It is the first I have read on this topic and I can’t imagine finding one more clearly written or more informative. Thank you. I also am interested in staying true to my Christian values in any endeavor, so I appreciated that perspective here.
I am going now to check out your site.
Heidi
This is a great article. I just want to say that I have an informational Web site rather than a blog, and most of this can be applied to Web sites as well.
Thanks for the post, i’m sure this will help me to start making money with my blog.
Me too. I used a lot of the ideas here and made a good blog and got some traffic and income already. And I get to publish great articles now and have them read.
Huge help!!!! So glad you threw this out there, the 10+ hours you must have spent will now help hundreds down the road! Well done, sir. Well done.
Great post, I have a new blog and have been trying to earn money through it, it is good to know that all the time I invest in it will eventually payoff.
I have enjoyed reading your website. I am looking to open my own blog with supporting affialite links. Update the site each week. I have reading everythin I can learn.
am I on the right track.
It sounds like you are on the right track. I update my sight more often but once a week might work for you. I have adsense and an amazon store on mine and use many of the techniques here to get traffic to the blog.
Thanks for a great article – it’s always wonderful when people share their experiences. I’m very new at blogging, but find it fascinating. Thanks again!
I am 25 years old and have been in a rut since I graduated college. I am lucky to have married a wonderful man, but neither of us are happy in the usual work environment and I have struggled with figuring out what I can do to change that. I am a writer. I am currently trying to sell a graphic novel idea, as well as a screenplay, but I don’t have any grand ideas of making it rich. If one day I do, so be it. In the meantime I want to enjoy what I do. While I promise I won’t quit my day job just yet 🙂 this article really helped me believe I can do this, create a blog about something that means something to me, and eventually earn a real income on it. Thank you for being so thorough, thoughtful, and well-written.
Hey Amanda,
I think I have some ideas that you might find very interesting regarding making money via blogging. Let’s chat! And this post is awesome, btw!! Pure gold!
Thanks for the tips.As a beginner it has helped me alot.
Great information! I just started doing a blog and find information like this so invaluable. I esspecially like the fact that a Christian is writing this and it shows with the honesty and sincerety this article is written with. Thank you so much for putting this out there, I will refer you to my fellow bloggers!
God Bless!
Thanks for taking the time to write this very helpful article. I have been blogging for about 4 months now and have so much yet to learn….I’m going to bookmark the page.
Christian,

Lee

“Good News” for me to learn that there’s a fellow Christian out there who is succeeding in a big way blogging professionally!
I have a Christian blog on blogger and just don’t seem to get enough traffic that could spell c-a-s-h. I have read a lot on blogging, writing, SEO etc. Maybe I’m not praying enough!
My aim is to chronicle on my blog, my learnings at Sunday services. This will help people who for whatever reason have missed or cannot attend church. Would appreciate if you could glance through my blog and suggest any improvements at my email id. Thanks and God Bless you!
This was a post I really needed to read tonight. Thank you for writing it. I’m going through the work-for-free part and it can get a little depressing. However, the key is, as I know myself, to keep going.

It is nice that you are also not forgetting to thank the Lord becuase of your talents
This article came at the right time for me. I have been working on an SBI site for one year. I am at 15-20 visitors a day. They say wait until 20 a day before your monetize. I am looking to start a blog, do some article marketing, and interviews with people who may put my link on their site. Thanks.

This is such a great article, and your blog is a lifesaver. My husband invests in the stock market and finds ways to make money even when the market is down. I would love for him to blog about it, even if he can make a little extra cash from it. You are truly an inspiration…GOD bless you Bob!
Thanks for the wealth of information. Your sincerity and genuineness was what caught my attention. thanks and keep being yourself. From your site i now have a huge amount of information to work with.
I’m a newbie blogger so this is all great info for me.
Great info, thank you
Thanks for the know how. God bless you.
This is great help. I wanted to start my blog, since I enjoy writing about various topics.
By the way, I think you forgot to mention to set up a Paypal or other secured account system before starting Google Adsense.
I’m going to use some of these tips that you have listed, this article will help a lot of people. It does take some time to start making money but it will come.
Nice guidelines! I just started a blog about make money blogging. Hope can learn something different from you and your blog.
Thanks for all of the information, I have implemented some of the strategies that you have listed above. It does take some time but it is worth it in the long run, you are right about the social network sites. They are good but the do eat up a lot of your time. So you really have to be care full not to get carried away with those type of sites.
You do have to have some patience in the beginning, but when you get on a role things will begin to open up for you. I know for one thing, you should set you some kind of schedule when you are working on line. Just like you would do at a 9 to 5 job, If you take this serious you will be able to make some money. If it’s just a hobby it will take some time to see any profit. But for any one just getting started marketing their website or blog these are great tips.
Good luck and don’t let anything stop you!
You have nailed the best suggestions for making an honest and outlined income from your online experiences. A pleasant change for what is usually only particially posted or suggested.
Thanks so much for this information. I truly appreciate it. 🙂
Thanks for putting so much time into this. You never know whose heart you will soften. And I got a nice tutorial.
Great article with some very valuable information. Some of which I knew about but not well enough. Thank you for sharing and I will keep this article bookmarked to reference back to often.
I have just started to put google ads on my site and my first affiliate review. God has really been giving me the wisdom and energy to pursue His will in this area. Be encouraged.
I appreciated this web site but now am a tad freaked out. I took your suggestion and registered my domain name with Dream Host. Guess what? There is not phone number, they don’t return e-mail and I cannot log on.
My credit card went through instantly. I finally locating a hosting site telephone number (thank you for your help GO Daddy) and when I called the number I got a recording which said they do not return phone calls!
I would really like to know how to rescue my domain name at this point, as it’s a good one. Never again will I take a chance like this.
And, my to my chagrin, I’ve found hundreds of comments that are critical of Dream Host. I really should have been more careful.
I thought you might want to know what my experience has been.
Heidi,
sorry to hear that happened – but I do suggest you stay on dreamhost until you either get your money back or get your hosting set up. They (just like most cheaper hosting companies) don’t have phone operators – which is what helps them keep the prices cheap. But having used them for about 3 years, I can vouch for them that they do return emails – sometimes it may take longer than I like, but they have always gotten back to me (usually within a day). If you don’t get an email response from them, please send me an email and I will contact them myself. The bottom line is they are a cheap host and they don’t have some of the features you would get if you were paying $50/month for your hosting. So it all depends on how much you want to spend…
Hello,
Thank you for the response regarding problems I was having with Dream Host. I know my comments must have been posted but for some reason they are no longer there.
I will continue trying to work with Dream Host via e-mail. In the end, I think it will be best for me to work with someone like GoDaddy.
The info posted here is very informative. Thank you.
I am a Christian business owner plus a licensed pastor. I enjoy writing, creating inspirational articles, and helping others become successful business owners. I would love to make money blogging but I don’t have a clue about how to get started. Any suggestions?
This material is extremely helpful. I just started a blog at wordpress.com to discuss topics mostly to politics and news, and this info is crucial for me to get more traffic. Of course, I would not mind to make money from the blog, but the discussion is more important to me. You are completely on point on the guest posting tips you provided, as they one of the most efficient tools to get people to visit your page. You have captured me as a regular visitor with the quality articles you publish, and the Christian perspective on personal finance.
That looks so great,I will use this method and write on my blog, thank you very much
Bob,
I have not started a blog yet but am thinking about it. Sounds like there is a lot to it but if you take it in stages it may not be so overwhelming! I am not by any means a computer “techy’ but currently am not working so I have the time to invest in it. Thank you for all your information, but more importantly making it easy to follow and understand.
Thank you for all of the help. I’m new at the blogging and have this page bookmarked now. I’ll be coming back for sure
Thanks so much, Bob! This article was very helpful to me. I was wondering if you have a link or resource you might be able to point me to in order to help me switch from Blogger to WordPress. I gotta have Thesis but I am afraid of messing everything up by switching to WordPress.
I absolutely love this article. I have read many and I have gone to several affiliate marketing blogs but your article makes everything so easy to follow. I appreciate it!
I value the information you have shared, it really help to shade light on what blogging is and how one can make money and most of all be a 2010 blogger.
Thanks much.
God bless.
if there are so many bloggerz outside there..is that it will effect the profit making out of blogging to blogging community..i am real newbie about this blogging…
Many thanks for an interesting and informative post. I’ve dabbled in blogging for a few months now but still class myself as a beginner. Your post really inspires me to just keep plugging away, enjoy the process for what it is, and that success will surely follow on from that!
Very detailed and thus informative. I just started a make money online blog and landed on this page while doing some research. Thanks for the great work!
thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU!!
Thank you for advice! I wish you even more success in the New Year!
Do you have to have a self hosted website to use adsense?
just wanted to say that this article was extremely helpful
thanks
Bob, GREAT ARTICLE! I’ve spent much of the day reading parts and putting parts into practice and clicking on several links like Squidoo to check them out. And I’ve “favorited” this article to come back to many more times. Thank you for going into such depth with it, too. God Bless You! ~Amy Kopp
Hey Bob,
This, as you mentioned, was a long post. Also though, it was thorough and to the point.
Since joining my friend’s team and blogging since August last year, I have found it to be one of the most clear and concise explanations of what a blog is and how to make money for beginners. Also, being somewhat experienced, I still learned of at least a dozen things that we could do better to increase our traffic and revenues.
Blessings Bob,
Obviously a ton of effort put into this excellent blog post. It’s articles and sharing like this, that makes the internet so amazing.
Thanks for sharing what you know about blogging. This is really a big help for me. I’m Dj and I’m new to wordpress.com. I just have a questions regarding the payment set up in blogging. How will I receive payments from google adsense and affiliate programs? Hope you could share the complete payment set up of blogging?
This is a great and very well presented article Bob! Thank you for being so willing to share information with such an honest perspective. After reading this article, some other questions came to mind related to personal finance and earning money from blogging:
How does this work when filing taxes?
How do you report the income (if you earn over the minimum required amount for tax reporting)?
Do you receive a W-2 or something equivalent?
Just curious…Thanks again for the great info and I wish you continued success!
Wow thanks so much for the info! I am a stay at mom to a beautiful baby boy and my husband is active duty military. As a military wife it is VERY difficult to find employment (especially when stationed overseas) so I have been looking into WAH opportunities, blogging being something I’m interested in. I have a blogger account but I haven’t written anything yet… I think I’ll get started in the next few days. Thanks again!
Congrats to you for your amazing success and for conquering your fears. What an inspiring story. Thank you very much for sharing.
This information has really sparked my interest in becoming a blogger. I would really love to hear back from you with any updates and new info you may have for new bloggers. thank you for your time, KingCrosier
Bob,
Thanks for all the wonderful tips. I will be coming back regularly to implement these strategies step by step and will hopefully reap the rewards like you have from your blog. I am a newbie and I have a question for you:
I have a blog already established for the last 5 months now with Blogger. If I wanted to switch to WordPress like you have recommended for a self-hosted blog, am I supposed to just start from scratch all over again? I’m sorry but it may be a basic question but am not sure if there is an option to transfer it over so to speak as I have already written pretty good content. Please advise. Thanks and continued success to you!
Anna, I believe blogger allows you to export your blog, so you can take it all with you to your new site…
I really needed this information. I’m new to blogging and I’m very excited about it! Thanks for the heads up.
Daphne
I typed “Paying off mortgage early” in the search window and found this impressive gem of an article on blogging, too. Wow! THANK you, Bob! My fourteen year-old daughter has been pressing me to start a blog (she has had one since she was 12!), but I didn’t feel that I was technically savvy enough to do it. However, after reading your amazingly thorough and easy-to-understand article, I think I am going to give it a go. I am a stay-at-home mom and artist who freelance writes occasionally. My degree is actually in journalism (major: ad/PR) and I have journaled since I was a teen. I am passionate about holistic health, art and stay-at-home moms (whom I feel have been vilified by much of society). But, my question is, what is the best way to come up with a good subject to write about??? Any suggestions???
Hey Christian,
I have been blogging at sinanbastas.com since 2007 and have been thinking about the next step since 2009. Being registered on wordpress.com, I wasn’t allowed to have any ads. I had good traffic, but was too afraid to plunge into the independent host scene. You really helped me get over that. I made the transfer this week. We’ll see how it goes. There is so much to work on.
Thank you again,
Sinan
Hi Bob, thanks a lot for the post. I’ve had several blogs in the past but I sorta closed all of them down because it was just taking up too much of my time. I only used adsense and obviously misplaced it 🙂
However, there is one thing I definitely have to confirm. I had one blog post, which I did about a trailer for a video game. I did an in-depth analysis of the trailer and provided further links for reading about it. Till that day, my blog had an average daily readership of about 20-30 people. The day after I posted the article, it spiked to about 200+ and remained that way for the next 2 weeks. Then it died down again. If only I had continued writing and put up some more and eventually more ads, it might have held on for longer.
I’m starting up a new blog next month . I’ll be sure to link back to your site.
Have a great day Bob and God bless you 😉
“I know some people don’t have a problem promoting anything that will pay them, but I just can’t, in good conscience, recommend something to someone that I don’t genuinely believe will help them.”
I have always felt the exact same way. I don’t think Jesus would open a bar or sell people cigarettes because he wants what is best for people. Placing the welfare of our brothers and sisters above financial gain is a VERY rare trait today, and I commend you and thank you for it.
And thank you for the series of articles on making money blogging. I have always wanted to try it, and I am gaining courage and inspiration from your experience. Thank you!
If you are using blogger you can find a topic that you have a lot of passion about and find you some affiliate products to promote. Commission junction is good.
Bob,
This will be the first “blog” I have ever “blogged”. I’ve been in the IT industry for over 15 yrs. now and have just not had the urge to get into the whole blog thing. I use the internet strictly for bill pay and informational purposes. Usually get on-get off stuff. I’ve always been curious about it though and your blog has not only been very informational, but also very easy to work with. Very user friendly indeed. I read and write a alot and have always thought of publishing (if that’s the right word) my thoughts on the internet. Yours is the first site that puts the “how-to” all together. I’m not necessarily a “religious” man but find much understanding in the way your relate the people and the world in general. Because of this I felt a “thank you” was in order, and who knows, you may have opened me opened me up to finally following though with my long time urge to get “blogging”. Thanks again.
Thanks for all the great tips! I’ve begun to use some of them already, and I hope to make it even better in the future.
Hello Bob!
Thank you for your suggestions. They remind me that I haven’t ever “got it done.”
Back in 2008 I started a blog and titled it Making An Internet Marketer because I wanted to be one so I set out to do just that and at the same time, I posted about my progress and setbacks along the way.
I’m not hitting it big yet, but I am making sales and building a list.
My philosophy? Treat people with respect and try to show them something they can use for themselves. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Glad to meet you,
Riley West
Thank you so much for posting this. I have just started my own blog and often feel overwhelmed by all the information there is out there. But it’s something I thoroughly enjoy doing and I’m happy to learn about it all. Thanks for making this information so accessible!
Best wishes and continued success,
Charlotte
thank you very much for the information, I am just starting and one must take advantage of others experience. very well presented re a subject that could be dificult to present. if you like wine take a look at bestbottles.
Bob, you have made my day! You were number 1 when I searched for how to make money blogging and it was worth the stop and the read! It’s wonderful to find someone as generous as yourself to help us newbies in the world start with good advice as well as the links to follow to use that advice. I became unemployed the day before Christmas of 2009 by our company closing so this has given me much more hope in my endeavors and in reaching some goals I have set for myself. Many heartfelt thanks for the time and effort you have put forth to present this to the world!
What a fabulous, fabulous article – you’ve been so generous with your information here.
I wrote a modestly notorious article about blogging for money which I still stand by and I think presents the other side of the story (hope you don’t mind the link, please do delete it if you’d prefer no links in text).
The competition level in blogging is absolutely insane — not on a personal level, as fellow bloggers are usually very generous with their time and advice — but on the level of sheer volume.
I think you have to really love writing and sharing information to blog for years. You also have to love participating in the community and promoting. (I think this is where I fall down a little — more because of time than anything else).
If you blog because you have something to say, that’s the best reason. Hopefully the money will come later, but if it doesn’t you still got to say your piece.
I think it’s very telling that ChristianPF started as a blog with something to say, not as a revenue stream.
Thanks again for a great article — I hadn’t realized about the privacy policy, and will be investigating it for myself now!
Hello!
When I started my blog it was a guided attempt at learning the art of making money online. The whole dream of earning money online by having good content that leads the right traffic to the site is one of this old off-line marketers dreams.
Thank you for you posts on your blog and your tips on how you made money with it.
I have resisted adsense, but, all of a sudden, I have to wonder why. My blog makes some sales but another $1500/mo looks good to me.
Thank you for being there.
Here’s to your continued success,
Riley West – An Internet Marketer In The Making.
Good, solid, practical advice. I’ll be trying out a number of your suggestions on my own blog.
Best regard,
Edd
I really enjoy reading this posts! This list is quite complete. The resource links are valuable as well as the overall post!
Thank you for the info. Very helpful… I also like the one about FREE dates your wife will love. Will be trying a few.
This is a great article. I love how you are getting paid to do something you love and how God has provided you a great opportunity to share your feelings about Him and things that interest you on this site. I’m very happy for you.
Thanks so much! I put several things into practice already. I also added you as a link to my site. Your help has gone above and beyond the others I’ve read through.
Hey,
This is a great website with very good information.
This make me want to start blogging.
One quick question though:
– Is it better to make 2 different blogs for 2 different topics we like, or to put both topics we like in only 1 blog?
(both topics have nothing to do or related together)
Thanks in advance for the information, I really appreciate it.
Regards,
MiG
Hi Bob! Wow that was a great read. Thank you so much for the very helpful information. I am looking to start my own blog and with a little luck I hope to generate some sort of an income from it. One question I had from you is how do you get paid from having a blog? I mean who or what exactly is paying you?
Thanks again,
Ace
Hello, your post helps me much because I just a newbie in blog area. I’m an IT engineer and I want to collect good articles in English and translate them to Vietnamese to publish for all Vietnamese user open their mind. Thank for all!
This is a great article. I had bookmarked this and will make it my bible for my new blog. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂
You could convert this blog post into a $17 ebook for sure. There is so much good advice.
This is by far one of the best, most complete posts out there on how to make money from a blog!
Thanks!
Thanks, for such a great post! I am trying to begin a blog with the hobby I love and it will surely help.
This is a superb article. There is a ton of value here, and I’ve found it to be very helpful.
And talk about SEO- this article comes up in the #1 slot for google, right head of even problogger.
Hi Bob,
Truly motivational, as well as inspirational. This has most certainly already help many people, to launch successful blogs, and I am confident that it will continue help many more. This is a Road map for success. THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT BLOGGING!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and success, and I wish you much success in all your future endeavours.
What a superb article! Thank you so much for the information and personal opinions, all of which I found very helpful. I have been feeling well and truly lost in the jungle when it comes to making a living from blogging but now I feel like I have a step by step plan. Thanks again!
Thank you for all your time and effort to share your helpfull information.
When did you decide to make the move from free blogging sites to your own? this is the main issue I’m kind of confused. In other words, did you first build up a fan base before you spent any money on your blog?
AUUUGHHH! I wish this had been here for me to read a year ago!
Outstanding piece of writing! I’m bookmarking this. Maybe I’ll even make it my browser’s default start-up page, so as to be reminded of everything you say before starting each day.
You’ve given me some hope that I might be able to push FaM, which is starting to earn a little revenue, to produce enough to contribute to building a decent standard of living in the post-layoff environment. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this article! You are just what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been blogging for a few months now off and on and had heard that you can’t make much with adsense ads, but now I know that’s not true! I’ve had adsense running on a couple of my websites for 2 years now and am only at $52 for that whole time! You have renewed my hopes and I’m now going to work on moving my ads around, building more traffic to my sites and putting some tastefull ads on my blogs too! Thanks!
Bob,
Very inspiring story letting others know it CAN be done with persistence and effort. Keep up the great work!
Michael Erik
Hi, I know I just posted, but I just read some more of your article and would like to say that Bluehost is a very good hosting company. I’ve been with them for about 3 years now and have never had any problems. The control panel is very well organized and easy to use and you get up to 5 addon domains. I have 4 websites all on one account!
Thanks for the awesome blog. Very great info for someone trying to get started in blogging. You have made some very crucial points and made them simple for the newby bloggers. Info is greatly appreciated. I will definately impliment many of your experiences in my own journey. I was recently put on disability and decided to pursue my passion and curiosity in the world of blogging. If you get a chance check out my very first blog. Any advice and support is greatly appriciated. I will definately be following your blogs in the future. Thanks christian78
This is a great article,
I just started up blogging and this has been a huge help. I’m going to have to read it over a few times to get all of the information in and i’ll probably need a lot more help getting going but so far this is a great tool to start.
Very useful tips. This is a great source for new bloggers. Keep up the good job.
Total newb here. This is great stuff!!! – Man, thank you very much for this information. It’s truly inspiring.
Like you, before you started blogging, I work in Corporate America. Fortunately, I have not been laid-off. But with today’s economy, who knows what the future has in store. Regardless, I’m looking to make a change because I’m no longer happy with my current career choice. With that said, your article is truly inspiring and has motivated me to take the plunge and try to make a living blogging. I’m hoping to replace my current income within 2yrs working PT while I work FT at my current job.
I am a little confused on one thing though. You show the graph on how your income increased, but you don’t mention how much you currently earn. Now, I would never expect that you would reveal that information. It’s no one’s business but your own. However, to get a true sense of how much you a person can expect to earn their first year, it would be helpful if you could elaborate on how much a newbie, such as myself, can expect to realistically earn without revealing your income of course. I realize there are several variables to consider – content, traffic, types of ads, etc… but perhaps you have a number that you’ve seen on more than one occasion reached for first year (PT) bloggers. I’ve heard people say 60k is nothing from a blog working 20hrs/wk. But I tend to be a little old school and think nothing is that easy; especially when it comes to making money.
I’m looking forward to applying some of the lessons you’ve learned to my own endeavors. Best of luck in anything else you do. – Thanks again.
Any more tips on submitting articles on article sites? Do I post old posts from my blog or write new articles? And do I need to submit a different article to each different article submission site?
Again, Awesome hub! You have done some amazing and talented work. It is definately not going unappreciated. I’m sure your already aware of that , but really, thanks! It has really helped me in getting started. Maybe one day I be up there with the big dogs but for now I’m of to a good start.
Trust me…..i kust completed writing my first blog and the information in the article was awesome.
Hi Christian,
Two days ago I asked myself a question: ‘Can I make money from writing blogs?’ I have been writing my website now since 2004 and apart from a few friends & my students I don’t think that many people have read my blogs and actually I wasn’t really aware that it was even possible.
So I put the question ‘How can I make money from blogs?’ in my favourite search engine and I found your detailed explanation which I am reading and applying step by step.
Thank you so much for providing all this invaluable advice.
– The web is a place where we meet likeminded & caring human beings –

I love your site and am having a problem with a website I just recently created. I signed up for google adsense on my website yesterday. It is currently being reviewed. Now when I go to my website it says 404 Not Found Google Error. I cannot access my site. Is this normal? Could you please help me out.
Thank You
Bob,
This is a great resource…..I’m going to revisit it during daylight hours. I have a website, but no blog….yet. Looking forward to learning how to set everything up and get moving. Again, thank you for all the information you continue to share.

Thanks Bob. I appreciate your sharing. I have just started my blog about sharing US Stock earnings. Your sharing helps me a lot! May God bless all of us.

Thanks a lot for your kind information. It is really very nice of you to share such precious information
Great Post !!
I learn a lot form your post as I am a new blogger.
wish I read other posts of yours.
Thanks.
Mario
Thank you so much for all of your information! God bless you and your wife.
I have to say this has become my “bible!” My cousin and I have recently gotten into bloging, it’s a little overwhelming trying to figure everything out and was estatic when we stumled upon your artice. We will be trying to implement some if not all the ideas you have so graciously shared!
Thank you. God has truly blessed you, and I thank you for sharing those blessings with others such as me. I will be trying for the same success.
A great “roadmap” for monetizing a blog.
I loved this part – “Getting laid off”….how true! A job steals the best hours of your day, of your life. It’s a curse and the greatest challenge in life is how to get off the hampster wheel.
Your sincerity and genuineness was what caught my attention. thanks and keep being yourself.
I have a website but really want to start blogging full time. This gave me lots of tips and places to go that I didn’t know about. I am also stunned that your adsense increased by $1500 in just 3 months. That is an amazing figure. I am glad that everything worked out for you. Keep up the great work.
I have had a personal blog for a couple of years, but this was a tremendously helpful insight into something I never really understood before. Thank you for taking the time to lay this out, and it has prodded me into believing I might be able to make some extra money for my wife and I…
Lets be honest here the artical is brilliant and the way i read it you make money on each person starting a blog and taking your advice. This is by far the best way i believe a person should make money and that is by helping other. Your artical as a totally wet behend the years internet surfer helped me realize that a lot more reseach and time is needed to start run and have an successful blog. Your heart seams pure though and for that i thank you and praise God for. I will use your site when i am ready to actually start my blog.
Love the Response that everyone is putting, I am too is on the Pursue to a happy and Successful Career. Your Blog has helped me a lot!
Thanks-
Ralph
This is such an awesome article, I am hanging on every word! Some of it I knew already, but a lot of the information is just what I needed to hear. I really like the ad networks that you put in, I am signing up with a couple of them today.
Thanks again for such an informative article!
Bob, I thank God that He led me to your blog. I have forwarded it to my daughter to encourage her. She started a blog and had over 2000 folks in no timel She was a runner up in a Martha Stewart project. However, she was doing nothing at all to make an income from her growing audience. She and her husband are graduates of UVA and young Christians that have so much to offer, especially in writing articles. Please keep them in your prayers, I know you are the missing link to getting them back up and running with their blog!
This is a great post, easy and refreshing read. Thanks for that.
Thank you so much for your article,I hope it will accomplish guiding me to earn an income from blogging,so far Iget stuck with the techie stuff, and I was not able to retrieve my Ad Sense email to set up ads in my blog, which is mostly short stories and humor
Looking for a way to possibly bring in a bit of money to pay medical bills and hopefully retire someday……..thank you for all of the wonderful, easy to understand information.
Nice guidelines! I just started a blog about make money blogging. Hope can learn something different from you and your blog.
Thank you for sharing information on making money from blogging. I’m pretty new to the whole blogging arena, and your information has helped me out to get started.
Thanks,
Rob
Useful information on your website, I am in the process of starting my own blog and am NOT tech savvy at all, so I’m hoping that following your directions would help. However, I noticed no donation link? How are we suppose to pay you for your useful information? Would it be against christian values to put a donation link on the site?
Thank you for your site! Definitely and inspiration!
K
Kaui, thanks for the kind gesture! I do have a donation page that is kinda hidden – seedtime.com/support, but really just linking back to the article from your website is thanks enough. Of course I would appreciate donations, but some of the affiliate links in the article take care of compensating me for the work – thanks again!
Why is it important to self-host your own blog? Would it be okay to stay with one that is not even if you’re serious?
@Bob yes I will definitely link your page on to mines when I get my website up and running and figure that part out lol. I’m still on a free blogger, just starting to get my feet wet.
@L as for the self-host blogging…I’m still new to this all but as far as my understanding goes, if you are “serious” as you say, but you don’t say “serious” in what way? Do you plan to make money? Are you advertising your business? Also having your own private domain name that belongs to you is better, for example, myblogger.com, rather than myblogger.wordpress.com. And make sure you buy your domain name from a different company than who the webhosting. Keep is separate. Why? It’s complicated lol. I’ll leave the rest to Bob.
Thanks Bob for your website!! Definitely an inspiration to us all! I hope I gain a million visitors one day. That would be so awesome! 🙂 God Bless.
I get the really article who give me up. Many thanks.
OMGooodness U R Awesome!
I thought I was going to die a “blog idiot” (it’s been explained to me 3 times never like this)
Thank you so much I am actually interested in blogging now.
And Thank you for being Honest and having Integrity this means more than I can ever express.
I hope you are blessed with so much you cannot possibly receive it!
peace,
Tanya
thanks for all the great advice — just starting out and hoping to make a little money –having fun with the learning stages
What a great article. I’ve had a similar blog going for a while, but never thought of how to make money from it! Thanks a lot.
One thing I would like to mention about People who use Google Adsense to make money, also have to think about layout of google adsense. When i started adsense, it was not making much money. But I change it’s style and layout in my post. Now I am very happy with it.
It’s like my extra job.
Can’t thank you enough for this, really helped (helping) me get my blog off the ground.
I counted many “wows” in comments.. many “wow great post”.
The interesting thing is that many people read/know most of the tips, but do not bother to follow them. and that is what diffrenciate the succesful bloggers from other.
Those who willing to inverst time, effort and sweat for success are few.
I went from 0 to 20,000 visits in less than 1 year and the traffic continue to grow every month.
I take lessons every time – this article is also a good lesson to me. try to learn what I can.
my tip: People/bloggers still do not understand the power of facebook and linkedin and what an active presence there can bring to their blog.
We just hit our 2 year mark and you were so right! Our numbers jumped way up. My son had the same experience with his site.
Very interestingly written article. It’s quite catchy and gets straight to the point.
Although most of the tips mentioned are wide known, there are few tricky ones that people (myself including) easily neglect like the privacy policy for example.
There’s also this negativity going around that you can’t make money off blogging, and it’s usually coming out of people that have no idea about what blogging is.
So articles such as this, are pretty inspiring giving many people the faith to keep on going, no matter what the current results.
Thanks for taking your time to write it all out.
Wow. Thank you so much for this article. It’s great that you took the, “I’m not interested in making money off of this resource; God has blessed me and now I want to bless others” approach. It’s obvious that this is your God appointed calling because money is not your primary motivation.
Thanks so much and I look forward to practicing all of these techniques and creating a successful blog.
Jasmine
P.S.
I may email you for a bit of mentoring in the future 🙂
I am really impressed with this article, indeed, very detailed and wonderful article on blogging. Anyone can start out blogging successfully by just reading this article. I have been sourcing information on how to start a blog, all i need to start and more are avaliable in this article. Thanks for doing such a simple to follow article.
Bob,
This was exactly what I needed. I know it has been some time since this article was posted but I figure I should pay my respects. This is a timeless article, very professional, and extremely invaluable to individuals like myself who are just starting out. I’ve written 2 articles so far on my blog and need to have some direction…this entry definitely gives me a starting point. Thanks a bundle!
Dave
Dear Bob: I am a christian physician. Looking info about tithing I found your page and later this article. It impressed me in many ways: #1. How complete #2 How giving #3.How clear it was. Because of your story, which related to mine in the sense of giving my knowledge to others at no cost, i have started a heatlh blog for the latino community. Probably you won’t understand most of it, since it is written in Spanish, but it has a lot of your “knowledge” in it. I am very thankful and will mention your blog whenever I can in mine. I am in the start up process (as a kindergartener) and already applying your suggestions. By the way. i have found that the Swift template has been very customizable and is free. Just wanted to let you know.
Thanks so much for the great work you put in your blog,
Dr M. Aviles

Awesome guidelines … definitely a well needed refreshment.
This is great for beginners; also the problogger book is great and super helpful just like your blog!
I was wondering if you could tell me how much traffic each of the host you recommended could handle and still operate fast??!!
This is a very informative and well written article for new blogger such as myself to be able to blog effectively and make money doing it. I am glad I came accross this site before I started blogging. I have since implemented most of your tips recommended onto my blog. Thanks very much for this great article and post.
Wow! This is an amazing article. Thanks for putting so much time into it to help your readers. I’m going to have to bookmark so I can go through the steps one at a time.
Inspiring indeed, thanks for the tips as well!

Thanks for the great article. I think you have condensed all the information a new blogger would need. I wish that I had come across it when you first published it, as it would have saved me a lot of time.
Thanks again and God bless.

This is an excellent article and gives so many useful links and tips. I don think i´ve read a clearer general article about making money using a blog.
Great article, spectacular advice that I will be taking advantage of. Thank you!
Thank you very much for your comments, info, and helpful tips and whatnot all. I have started considering starting my own blog and had no idea that you could make money from it (shouldn’t have been since you can make money from doing just about anything these days) but I have much more inof now than I ever had. Hopefully this willhelp me get things going tin the right direction. I too have been laid off for a while and now maybe I can start to see some income coming in [for a change]. Thank you again and I do intend to link your article with my blog.
Thank you so much for the great info.
You don’t need to necessarily webhost. If you’re a Linux admin, you just need, you can do it on your own.
Thanks so much for the information! It was everything I needed to get my new blog going. I am so happy that I found your website.
I hope I will learn something from this post since I just started my own blog.
i was wondering if i started a blog at with wordpress.com will i be able to make it my own at some point? i ws reading tht if i sell ad space that they get half.
Excellent information!! I bought the book “Problogger” and I’ve learned a lot from it. I’ve got to be honest, though, I return to you site more often than I do the book! You should consider writing one! Thanks for the info and inspiration!
God Bless!!
Donna
I really enjoyed reading this article, and in fact, made several changes to my five blogs as I read along. These tips are easy to implement and I hope they will increase my bottom line as I do what I love to do, write about what I love. Thank you sooo much for taking the time to write this!
Definitely one of the BEST posts I’ve ever come across when it comes to blogging and making money online. I’m definitely bookmarking this and coming back because there is so much useful info here it’s impossible for me to read it all right now. I’m a “do as I go” type of person, so after I read your info, I’m definitely going to try to do it step by step and apply it to my blog. Hopefully I can increase my income from blogging!
Hey thanks for the information and guidelines that’s very helpful, I appreciate it all
Did I miss something about WordPress…they do not allow advertising except for the most successful blogs and for fee.
Are their real drawbacks to using Google for blog hosting?
Are there better alternatives for a beginner?
Hey, you’re advice is really good! I hope that someday I’ll have as many followers as you! Lol, have fun with your blog and God Bless…
Thanks for the info…I love to write and have been thinking about blogging for some time now….your artcle is full of great info. Congrats on your blogging sucess!

Hi, This article provides so much of information! I really appreciate the fact that you have shared your experience for free with the rest of us. Thank you so much. I will link to this article on my blog.
How do you make this legal with the government? Do I have to have a small business license since I’m getting paid, do I get taxed? I want to do a group blog, so there would be 3 of us splitting profits. Where can you point me to answers? I’m in California.
I came across your blog while searching for info on how to increase Adsense earnings. Sorry to hear you lost your job, it happened to me also.
What a wealther of information in your post. Thanks you so much for sharing. I will put the info to use as I develop my blogs.

I have been tracking your blog for over two years now and as I was asking the Lord how to make my blog better, money and all, your site came up and I read this post, signed up for updates, I am wondering why I didn’t find you in 2007 when I started blogging!
Thanks for being sooooo helpful.
Thanks so much for this article. Can you share more about thesis? I am interested in signing up, but I still want a very personal looking blog. How do I create custom avatars or have a coffee theme for instance? Thanks!!

I’ve paid good money for less information than this!
Thank you Bob for your generosity.
I’ve been having fun with a blogger blog but thought I would make another blog using wordpress.
After watching some videos on setting up a wordpress blog I felt totally overwhelmed and thought I would stick with blogger.
After reading this incredibly helpful article I think I will have to get outside my comfort zone and master wordpress!
Bob,
I have for a while now been considering writing starting a blog of my own. I really just intended for it to be a fun outlet for thought that ramble around my head.
About 2 months ago I was laid off of work, and after hitting the job boards and unemployment line unsuccessfully, I decided to try my had at a commercial blog.
After doing a little research I stumbled across this blog, and it must have been sent from God. I finally started my own blog, and with your tips and suggestions I feel that I am moving in the right direction for making some money at this.
Thanks for your time and research, and for posting this for all to see.
God Bless you in your work.
Awesome tips and guidelines. Thanks for this article.
Excellent post, I am just entered into the world of blogging and have found that there is so much to learn. Making money doing something you enjoy is a perfect scenario. Good luck to you all.
great info and tips thanks so much
Thank you for being so truthful and upfront with your information. This is great stuff. I have bookmarked the site. I have used some of these tools. Learning about others. You are right it takes time to learn it all. Working on probloggers 31 days to build a better blog.
Your Article was very informative and easy to understand. Looks like you’ve also put a lot of work into this, so kudos to you sir. I am a beginner in blogging but didn’t comprehend all the tricks of the trade to make a living out of it till I read your article. Congratulations on your success. More power!
Thank you so much for all of this information. My blog is nearly 2 years old and my readership is around 100 visits per day … I will hit 20,000 visits today or tomorrow. I am out of work and would really like to take the next step and make some money on my blog now. My niece gave me your link, and I appreciate this article so much!
Kathy
Priceless advice! Alot of the tips you presented will work with a blog or a static website. I’m just starting out as a blogger, so every tidbit of information that I get is helpful.
You mentioned that experimenting with Adsense colors and placement is critical to success. I’d just like to add one footnote. In my (limited) experience, the size of the Adsense ads plays a role as well. I’ve had the most success with the 75 x 375 ad-blocks placed beneath paragraph breaks.
I’ll be back to read through the rest of your articles…great job!
Thank a lot for the great post. I’m new to blogging and this article has taught me a lot!!! I’m really happy I could find your blog
Thanks for the blogging info. Ive started blogging but need to learn more and all the info you gave are very helpful. I need to read all the info you provided to learn more. Learning how to customise my blogs will be interesting including how payment is received from clients who access my blog.
Thanks & God Bless you
thanks. Great articles. Can a free blog make money?
This is an excellent article. I agree with the recommendation for a .com domain name. I have tried others and now when I have new site ideas I go with .com – you simply get more traffic that way. Thank you for sharing!
Hi i have been blogging for a whole two weeks now and only two people have been to look on my blog is there a way to get more viewers, and if i write more material will i get more visitors or is it better articles that bring the chickens home to roost.
You have written such a comprehensive article. Great job! I didn’t know about the Google Ad Targeting code so thanks for sharing that especially! 🙂
Thanks so much for the tip. I am a NRI teenager living in the gulf and I wanted to find some ways to make money as I had loads of free time. I loved all the articles on making money and I think you did good to share this tip with others. I will definetly try it. By the way I found that google had launched something called Google websites and you can create websites with it. Will using it generate profit.
Thank you so much! I’ve been wanting to start a blog for a while and this is by far the most informative-and free! It made me smile to read all those positive comments. Thanks again, Julie
Great blog and good tips. It can be hard to start trying to make money online because the beginning is suck a grind but, it you stick with it, it is totally worth. I just have to remind myself that it is a marathon and not a sprint.
Thank you soooooo much for sharing this info! Here’s to Prosperity to us all!
Thanks for the info – long but full of great content and advise.
I’m also just starting on the blogging scene, so this blog is already bookmarked!!
Thanks for the great post bob. Awesome and very inspiring. I also have a background in financials so I wanted to host a blog about my work even before I found out that blogs can also generate income. anyway, I have a question for you (or if anyone can answer). I appreciate your help all the way.
Q: It seems that most bloggers suffer from lack of traffic. I understand that becomes an issue. but if you are blogging for money, why can’t you use just display hot sale items(ex. electronics, computers, etc) from affliliate programs……IN ORDER TO INCREASE traffic? Is it because Google won’t recognize you(again, b/c you don’t generate enough traffic?)? or is it because Affiliate Programs won’t sign with you unless you generate certain traffic? Thanks for all the help.
Great info.
One question you didn’t address:
Is it easier in the long run to start an LLC and get a buisness account running from the begining, both of which are inespensive / free. Rather than wait to do this once income is generated?
Regards,
Darren
Thanks for all these tips! I just started my blog a few months back and I haven’t yet moved into the realm of self-hosting but some of my pieces have been good, continual readership – which is why I want to move to self host. But I’m wondering whether it’s smarter for me to keep building what I have and start submitting this content to directories or whether I should wait until after I have created the self-hosted blog? Thanks again!
I am a frequent reader of your blog posts. I liked the recent one and other posts on your blog so much that I have subscribed to the blog’s RSS feed in Thunderbird. Even thinking of stealing some ideas and put them to work. Keep all the good work going by posting more informative posts. Thank you. Time well spent on this post.
Dear Christian,
Thank you very much for all your advice!!! But there is one question that I have that I cannot find in your articles and maybe other people need to know as well. How long do you think I have to wait to start getting traffic? When do you know more or less that it is a good idea to start writing about other topic?
Thank you very much!! again!
Carolina
Thank you, Bob. I have been thinking of ways to make money in order to support my family and pay off debts. I love to write, learn and share wisdom with others, and this article helped me to make up my mind to start blogging patiently. Thanks a bunch bud. Blessings.
Wow! all that comes to my mind about this article is wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
This is an awesome article! Thank you so much for your great insight and knowledge! I know it will help the growth of my sports website. Thanks again!
Hi Bob,
that was a fantastic article, indeed. I relate a lot to your story and many of the step you lay out I have followed myself with much success. I like you honesty and your willingness to help others.
Matthew
Bob, I just purchased “How To Build a Successful Blog Business” by Collis Taeed.
Thanks for the recommendation. I will get back with comments and feedback on this ebook.
This is such a great article. I have honestly read it three or four times.
this is another inspiring post. thanks bob. am a new blogger
Wow, Bob! Such an inspiring post here! Very useful info… bookmarked for future reference! =)
Wow,
I’ve read a third of this article and I already had to skip down to the comments and thank you. I just posted my very first blog article yesterday and I cannot wait to take some of your advice.
Best,
ash
Very good information. I found it very useful. Thank you for sharing these money making tips with us.
Outstanding article. I have been working through it and learning as much as I can.
Very nice Blog! Keep up that great work!
Bob,
This is a phenomenal article, in my opinion the best on the web for the given subject (and as I have found out, this tends to be a fairly cluttered subject).
The question that I have for you is:
What is the advantage/reason for using a theme framework like Thesis or SemiLogic in contrast to using a free WordPress theme?
While I suspect it has something to do with the monetization of the blog, I could really use some clarification. Thank you!
Casey
Casey,
If you are a developer, you don’t need the premium themes, but I am not, so using thesis helps me to customize millions of things that I wouldn’t have been able to with a “normal” theme. Many of them are cosmetic things, but in terms of monetization, being able to customize where your ads show up makes a huge difference.
Wow.. so much information..the more i read about blog managing and even making a bit of money doing it…seems so daunting.
I love to blog and have just started to blog again. Thank You and god Bless you for all your wonderful tips.
Really very great stuff! Thanks for clearing the path, and showing pointers along the way. I’m convinced to give my blogging a second lease on life 🙂
My hat off to you, and to how you’ve described things.
Thanks for sharing your insights and tips. I am just starting my blog, although I saw a similar article from another great blogger in 2008. I could say I wish I had taken the time back then to study it more, but I trust God’s infinite Wisdom. I look forward to joining in!
Wow anyone who can put all of this together, Is so neat, I am a Mom of 8, Who needs to make extra money…
Great job
Very nice thanks for sharing this information. I just started a blog and i needed some help
Such a wonderful article! Thank you for all of the information. It seems like there is so much to learn!
Greetings Bob,I loved the article on making money blogging,I find it very interesting and it is a good read for so many people like me who want to make money from that power house on the net that generates millions and billions for those lucky few,I myself started blogging at
november 09 and only a few weeks now google Ads have started coming on my blog…Total amount of earnings 75cts and I’m still hoping the big bucks are coming any time soon but it doesn’t quiet seem like it…If you have some secret tips do let me know Bob,I really need it.
I don’t have a blog yet, though I’m thinking about it. This is a wonderful help for someone like me (not a technical wizz). It says a lot in layman’s terms that would have taken forever to learn another way. Here is my dilema…unemployed missionary, no money for a computer or internet at home. The local library only allows one hour per person per day online. Not much motivation at this point to start a blog, yet I feel maybe I’m supposed to (still praying). Not to make money, but at this point to have connections and just walk through the open door! Any advice??? Thanks for your input!
Thanks so much for the in-depth blog. These tips would have taken days to research individually. With all this help I might actually have at least a beta version of my new blog up by the weekend! God Bless!
Wow, thank you so much bob for these great tips, i have learned so much in such a short read, i have been going to school for journalism and i just dont think its for me but i love to write and express my self, so i thought i would give blogging a try and now i think i may have found something i can do for a long time and love doing it.
Thanks for all the tips. God Bless!
Thank you, Thank you very very much. I know blogging is hard work. I hope to apply these ideas/concepts to my own and really go from there. It would be nice to be able to call it a job that pays.
Thanks for the info. Will have to study this a bunch more. Now to find something to blog about.
Thanks for the info, I am just getting started with blogging and have this page bookmarked for tips 🙂 I keep coming back! Cheers
Wow- an oldie but goodie!
Found you when searching for something (don’t even remember what)
Thanks for such a complete list of things to do.
I agree with you- I knew NOTHING in the beginning, now I coach others…
I don’t know everything but I know more than at least 50% of the people out there 🙂
I love to learn as well…I think that’s one reason I love blogging- it combines writing and learning as well as making new friends and helping others!
This article was very helpful. Thanks for the info!
Thank you SO MUCH. In every way.
I’m 17, and about to turn 18. I needed a way to make money without
actually applying for a real job- because I plan on changing my name,
and I don’t want to have people know me as (for example) JANE DOE if I’m
planning on changing my name to CLARISSA MAYFIELD. So I’m avoiding job-jobs.
With AdSense, thankfully, it seems like I can sign up with my parents account and then have the blog I want under my GOOD name, and still get the money.
Thanks so much (^_^)
Thank you. Very well organized article on how to make money with a blog.
Hello,
I recently retired from my job as a firefighter and started my own blog a few weeks ago. The information in your article will really give me a jump start on what I hope to be a successful blog. Thanks for the great information!
Wow! Thanks a lot for the help. This is by far the best into site on getting started with a blog. I’ve been working on my blogs for 6 months now with little success. I’ll be sure to try out as many of your ideas as I can.
If I could just say WOW! I can’t tell you, although I’m sure you already know, how much time I have spent just looking up just 1 of the answers you provided on this post. This was the most informative, clear and straight to the point post I have ever seen. I will have to find a way to mention this link for others. Nobody should have to struggle so hard just to get set up, thank you for seeing that.
Dear Bob, WONDERFUL article! I know nothing about blogs, besides what you’ve provided herein, except that I’d probably like to write one–for many of the same reasons you started. I will continue to research the topic. THANK YOU for the clear, easy-to-understand beginner’s blueprint. Your article was a confidence-building place to begin! Continued success with your endeavors!! Rain
Im glad i found your site. All the best!

Bob
I am amazed by this article! You have given so much information and I see all the work God is doing with it as I read the comments. I pray that Proverbs stays true to your heart because the Blessings from God are following.
Also, I have to admit this article makes me want to start blogging….Then reality of time set in. I’m a working Mom who also homeschools 3 young childern. I have a lot of great stuff to blog about with two boys and a girl who keep me laughing (might be because I see them throw rose colored glasses).
I will be looking into this idea for my business. The type of licenses I hold my limit me on this but this makes it worht looking into.
God Bless!!! Tye
Thank you, great information!! I like how you organize things on this site. Some sites have too many things on it and it can be overwhelming.
I just found your site but am so happy that God led me here.
Be blessed
Rena
I concur, this is a lot of helpful info, thanks a bunch
Thank you for providing great insight in how to get started blogging. We are in the process of establishing a website to sell a product and a service, definitely not experts in blogging. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blogs and checking out your links, did not feel like I was being pressured to buy only encouraged to learn. Yes, I will be checking you out on face book.
Thankyou so much, this has inspired me a whole lot to make a blog for financial reasons and this article has made the process much less intimidating for me =)
Thanks for the tips, Bob! I just started my own blog for profit experiment, and this article and several of the comments has been extremely helpful! Blessings to you.

Superb article! Thanks for all the great advice. I’m sure it will all be returned to you one day, if not already. God bless.
David
Great info! I’m try a few of the things posted here on my blog. Maybe I can generate some extra cash.
Thank you SO much for your helpful advice! It helped to get up the nerve to start my own website. I cannot express how helpful your article was. I am sharing it with all the people who may benefit from it.
Again, thanks!
Thanks for creating this. I will be coming back to your advice as I begin to try my hand at blogging, Good work.
Thanks so much for sharing all of this great info!! I am a brand new blogger hoping to make enough money to go to Cosmetology School. A decision I have made later in life, but am determined to make it happen. I am a little overwhelmed with all of this info, but plan on reading over it several times. I am NOT a techie so some stuff is totally new to me. Again, thanks so much for the info and God bless!
Hi, great site and info. Still got lots more to read here. I started an e store and blog about six months ago. I seem to be doing pretty good with traffic, however my problem is the replies I get seem to be from people trying to get links, not real customers. Not even sure they are really reading the blog. How do you get targeted traffic? I have sent articles to ezine and social sites with a link to my site. How do you get sales? Getting very frustrated. Been out of work for 10 months due to a work injury and trying to earn a living online. Even tried Clickbank, but no luck yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi, Bob,
Wow, this is quite a post. I wonder how many of your visitors realize how much you’ve given away here. Some people sell ebooks with less information for $47.
I have a clarification. Part of your success lies in picking a subject that lots of people need and are interested in. If you were deeply interested in anteaters, for example, you’d be making much less money. So people should blog about what interests them — and a significant number of other people.
And you stick to your subject. This is important for SEO purposes. Some people blog about their cats, their diets, their relationships, their jobs and so on — and then wonder why nobody but their friends visit their blogs.
Stick to one subject. Adding personal info, stories and viewpoints is great, but keep it focused on the needs of your reader, not on your self-expression.
Rick
Great advice. Very helpful thanks for sharing
I want to thank you so much for the information in this article. My daughter suggested I start a blog. I did not think it was possible but the information you listed here was inspirational, I think I can have my own blog. Thanks again.
Hi Bob,
My name is Dan Lawlis I’m a comic book creator that has produced illustrations for mayor comic book publishers like Marvel and DC comics. Although I make my living in advertising now, I still create comic books of my own creations. Recently I have gone online with a Christian sci-fi comic book called ORANGE PEEL 3. It’s a story set in the present day on a distant planet. The visuals are designed to be striking and the content of the dialog gives the fundamentals in the Christian faith (to the best of my ability). This is a comic book for older teens. There isn’t much out there for that age group. I believe that’s the most difficult time for a persons faith, a time when you start to ask the really tough questions and I wanted to create something that would supply answers in a language they can understand.
I only thing is, I don’t really know how to promote it. Originally I thought Christians would be honest and financially support an online book that promoted Christian values as opposed to atheist beliefs that most of the comic book characters have. I got a lot of people writing telling me how great it was that I was doing this, but they never sent me even a few dollars for my efforts. I met a lot of great people, but that doesn’t help with creating more stories. Plus I hate having to beg for donations. I decided to try a google Adsense add and see how that goes, but frankly I’m not overly optimistic.
Do you have any suggestions on how to use my website to bring in some income that will enable me to finance the creation of more stories?
Thank you,
Dan Lawlis
great series. i just started blogging so i want to get to this point. i have to finish reading and get to work.
thanks,
mike
Great post, Bob. I have a personal finance web site in spanish and I’m thinking of evolving with it. Just as in your case, this is a passion for me and I believe the information shared might help others to live better lives. Keep up the great work and your results will be even better!!!
Wow, what an amazing heart you have BOB…God is so good to have called you to this. In one day i have learnt how to be a good steward of what He has put in my hands and God’s heart for us to prosper but in the right way. Thank you. I have a had an idea to start a business for a while now, but i was going the retail route. The barrier to entry were going to be so challenging but now God has laid something with more purpose on my heart. Thank you thnak you thank you! May God multiply you abundantly and continue to make you a blessing, you certainly give Him the glory in all things.
Blessings,

One more question BOB…do any of these awesome tools work for someone that does not live in america, are their application universal?
Hi Edith: Bob is away at the moment, but I can tell you a lot of the tools mentioned here are available worldwide. Google it up!
I am so happy that I find your site from search engine while I was I am looking for information on how to make money on blogging. I’ve printed this article and I will read it after work. Thank you for this great post.
Wonderful information!!
I have been thinking of starting a blog site recently. My husband and I are planning on taking off in our RV for semi-retirement when all of our 6 children have graduated highschool. We both agree that a blog site ,consisting of something that we are both passionate about ,would be a decent way to start earning a modest income to supplement our travels. With the information I have read here, I think we can honestly begin blogging with some confidence. Thank you again, and god bless.
I have been considering this move for awhile – I am a couponer and SO many people around me want to learn how! I was afraid to move forward thinking not enough people would be interested or I wouldn’t be able to do it myself, you have just put this so simply, that I now KNOW I can!
Thank You SO Very Much!! Maybe one day we can share links 😉
This has been such a help, thank you for taking the time to write it!
Wonderful article!
Got me motivated to re-pimp my blog all over again. Thanks.
Holy Cow! I’m going to be back to read this better and refer back to it. I have been searching and researching, I have been from website to website, and yours is by far the most informative without a catch. Thank you so much. I’m not a total beginner blogger, but still pretty green.
I’m new to the world of blogging and stumbled across your sight. Thank you for all the detailed information! It’s been so helpful for me and I’ve found myself coming back to your sight numerous times in the past few days. God bless you and the work you do!
The information you’ve shared is wonderful. I keep coming back here, as I’m slowly setting up my blog. I wouldn’t be even close to where I am with out your article! Thank you, Thank you!
Bob, Thanks so much for sharing all your expertise about making money off your blog. This article has given me hope that maybe I can make money off my blog too. I know it is something God is leading me to do and I have regular readers (also write a weekly column called Perfectly Blunt. It is in two papers right now: sidneyherald.com and capjournal.com).
I am a bit overwhelmed by all the info shared in this article but I’ll wade through it (with the help of my teenaged son). Thanks.
Bob, this site is excellent! I’m currently making plans to become a full-time missionary, and have just started my own blog. Just a month or so ago, I was pretty much in the same boat you were. I knew what a blog was, and even had a couple of static sites, but I had no experience as a blogger. I’ve been looking for ways to make money from my new site to supplement my support. I will definitely be re-reading this page over and over again and considering each tool that you have given! Thanks so much!
This is really great information! Thank you so much!
I started reading your article on How to make money with a blog. This is very good information. Thank you.
I am a single, 37 year old, disabled, mother of one 6 year old boy. I have been on SSI since 1993. Over the past 6 years I have searched diligently for a way to pull a profit from the use of the internet. I have heard of blogging for a profit and have always wanted to create a blog of my own and make a living from it, but I have never found the right information and advice that I could use. After reading the above article, I can finally get started on creating my own blog and pull a profit.
Thank you so much for all the advice,
DeLayna
This was quite lengthy and very very useful. I just started a blog and came across this guide. I know a few others that own a blog and need tips and i will definitely advise them to read this. Thank you for your inspiration!
I’ve read this article several times and I appreciate all the information and tips you’ve provided. I have an idea for a blog and wondered if I could make some extra money through adds. Before reading your article, I had no idea where to start. I just signed up for your new letter. Thank you so much.
Cynthia
Great advice, i am taking a blogging class now but read your info when i was thinking of starting a blog end of December. Lots of great advice and especially “how to’s”, thanks much for sharing
Bob, I think your article about how to earn money through blogging is really awesome. Why don’t you just publish a book so that your ideas and concepts will reach to more and more people.this is only a friendly suggestion.
Anyway, thank you very much for your informative article.
Thanks for all of the help, I have been wanting to attempt this for a while and never knew where to start. This has been a huge help, now I guess I just need the patience to understand this all.
This has been extremely helpful!
Bob,
I started my blog about a year ago and to be honest have not put much work into it but recently I have been feeling the pull away from the corporat world and am planning on trying to build up my blog, and hopefully my readership and earnings. My wife and I have four kids so my topics have usually been around the challenges and great events associated with that.
I can honestly say that this is one of the best articles I have read on making money with a blog, and I plan to link to you from my website as a great resource.
Thanks,
Chris
Bob,
Thanks so much for all this great information. I’ll be sure to pass it along. I’ve already bookmarked this article so that I can come back to it multiple times as I work through the steps you have outlined.
What are your thoughts on 1 site that has all of the content you create as opposed to multiple sites, one for each genre of content?
Cheers!
Good article, I have been at it for 3 weeks and now noticing my numbers going up and its called consitency , and I just keep going, I know I will make it.Thank You for your article.
I am on a mission to have all of ehat was said here, become a reality in South Africa. You are all correct, we need to start doing sopmething for ourselves and stop blaming it on economies and politics.
We can make a success online!!
I can’t wait to get started! Thank you for your time and effort in preparing this for beginners like myself. Your honesty is greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for all this great information, I have been reading many different blogs about this topic, and by far you are the best at providing a great information. Your blog rocks!!!
I came across your website and have been devouring it over the past few days. I love it! Great stuff! Thank you. This is all new to me and now I have a million questions… But I won’t ask you a million questions, just a few:
Where do you find free, royalty-free photos for your site?
What is the difference between a website and a blog? Is the only difference the fact that blogs are updated more often?
Can you tell us about RSS feeds. What are they exactly and how can you use them with blogging? How do they benefit blogging?
And finally… you mention that you have other sites and other business ventures. What are they? Just curious about what it takes to “make it.”
Great reading. I intend to digest this information and put it to work. Thank You
What a great info. I will make sure to bookmark this page and come back again. Thanks so much! You’ve answered all of my questions about blogging!
WOW!!! thank you so much for the information. I looked up a couple of other sites on how to start a blog which were much more difficult to understand. I’m so glad I found this site though because it was really helpful for a beginner like me! I definitely think you had a lot of useful information on here and i’m so glad it was free. There’s nothing wrong with giving free advice and lending a helping hand, it will all come back to you 10fold!:) Thanks Again.
loved the way how you started the blog…God bless you…good on u
Great article! Thanks fortune info!
This is the best post i’ve ever read. Full of good tips.
This was a great post! I have been looking for a post that gave a more personal experience touch in their articles about when they started blogging. A lot of people will say that a long post like this will not make it for most people. I disagree with that I think that your writing style will attract certain readers. I liked how everything was organized and you could skip down to the different sections of the post. All in all a wonderful post.
Thank You!!
I have to say that this is by far the best post I have ever seen on starting a blog very well written and informative I actually learned something new thanks.
Hi Bob, this is all amazingly good information. I’m just starting out with my blog and can use every piece of good advice I can get. It’s a lot to learn, in many directions! Blogs like yours make life much easier 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
I was pleased to see this. Just what I needed. Thanks.
You are evidently doing something right because your blog was among the top when I did a Google search for “how to make money at blogging”. You taught me a lot in this article. I’m considering whether beginning a blog for the purpose of generating income is something I should do. After reading this, I think it’s time to begin researching more and praying about it. Thank you for your help. I might be returning for more info later! Who knows. I might even have a blog to which I can link this.
I read this from start to finish and I want to thank you!!!! I understand a lot more now and will take the next step! Your honesty is appreciated!
Great article. I was using adsense and was accumulating nice nice money. Anywhere from five dollars to twenty five dollars each day, 7 days a week.
But my blog is about Amway and someone decided to sabotage my efforts and did some things that got me banned from the adsense program. Thus I never did get to collect my legitimate earnings. Sadly, an adsense ban is forever so I cannot join the program again.
What a wonderful article! I created a blog after reading your information. Thank you for the help!
Wonderfully frank, useful information. Thanks. For those bloggers who also have a website could you offer a simple way to make their blog part of the website? I heard that this vastly improves SEO.
I was just led to your site and can’t thank you enough for the wonderful “map” you have shared! The info is more than helpful and your honesty and intergrity is refreshing. I just wanted to simply say “thank you”… I am sure in your niche and field you have heard of and possibly read the new book “The Go Giver” about finding business success in what sometimes feels like this dog-eat-dog world. This website and article reminded me of that book. Thank you for giving so freely of your widsom and knowledge!! May you be blessed 100-fold in return! 😉
A very nice article indeed. I am about to get a print out of it to read it all on the way home.
I’ve found that asking various companies within your “area of expertise” to sponsor product reviews and giveaways is also beneficial for adding new readers. It’s all a balance, though, you have to make sure there is more than enough content beforehand.
Wonderful tips! I’ve bookmarked your page, taken notes and can’t wait to implement some of your tips! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for this article. I have always wanted to run a blog, but I have never really known how to get started. I really appreciate you giving away such great information. I wish more people felt so “giving” to us rookies. Cheers and keep blogging!
Thanks for all of the helpful information. Your article is the most insightful one I have come accross. I’m excited to get started blogging! I will be reading more of your articles for sure.
Great post, thanks for sharing! To seo tools i would also add backlink watch, a good way to check backlinks.
I AM ABOUT TO BEGIN MY BLOG …. THANK U FOR ALL THE INFO .. I AM WILLING TO PUT THE HARD WORK IN FOR THE RETURN .. I JUST HAVE TO GET TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO START DOING THE ADS IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH THAT IT WILL BE SO HELPFUL … OK GUYS I WILL LET U KNOW HOW THIS GO ..
This is a great article and one that I will use the hints on for my new blog. Thanks again!
Wow! thanks for all that incredible information! I am thinking of starting a Christian blog about my life as a new Christian. I want to write about my everday challanges and how I have overcome them by turning everything over to Christ. I had no idea how to even start a blog, but I do now thanks to you. I am going to sign up for your site because I love that you have a Christian background and you have so much information to offer. Thank You, Stephanie
Well, it’s been a couple years since you wrote this article…. do all your tips still apply? I just started my blog this week, and I am fairly confident that it could be successful to earn supplementary (debt-reducing!) income. I figure the most important thing besides my content right now is to focus on getting my name out there and bringing traffic in, before paying for Adsense or whatever. Is there a ball park number for daily hits to aim for to be able to earn money (say $50/week)?
Hey Sarah. I think the best tip is to be consistent and work at it! Adsense is a difficult thing to judge, because it depends highly on your target market and click-through rates differ from blog to blog. I wish you the best!
I’m so glad you posted all this wonderful info. It’s the most comprehensive advice I’ve read so far for beginner blogger and I’ve been doing loads of research, so thank you SO much for taking the time, I’m definitely bookmarking this page and passing on the link to others!
Hi
I really think this article was great reading, and it will for sure inspire quite a lot of people to give it a go for themselves.
I run a few membership sites, where I use me WP-MU to give some members a benefit of having their own Blog, all setup and ready to go.
Unfortunately I am sure non of them have ever seen an article like yours, because they are doing absolutely nothing with their assigned Blog.
It is true what you say about Focus being everything to be able to make any money online, but people tend to spread their efforts.
They should be using a Sniper-Riffel instead of a Shotgun.
Most people are joining various sites that actually are great, but they do not put the effort in just a few sites, and for that reason they never really succed in any of them.
This is a really amazing article ! I knew basically most of what you talk about , but there is some really valueable information in here. Thanks alot ! I wish you all the best !
Lots of good tips here. You may want to recommend paid advertisements too. Ads are no substitute for organic traffic, but they are a nice compliment to all your recommendations.
this is full of information. I like the article about how to make money with adsense the most.
Must go with BlueHost. I am a beginner in blogging and BlueHost is user friendly and the customer service is stellar! I highly recommend it. Thanks so much for this article. I has inspired me to be a blogger and a writer. I am happy to say I will be published in an international magazine and I will be launching my first book this Spring. Thanks so much for this inspirational post. Josh
Hey Bob,
Fanatastic post, thanks so much! It’s really helpful insight as I’m just starting out.
Thank you very much for this info! I use wordpress for my real estate website and am considering blogging full time as a way to spend more time with my family. Another great wp tool you may want to add is yoast.com’s seo plug in… Fairly easy set up but does A LOT of SEO work for you. Thanks again!
Hi. I really like this article and I really want to start a blog. I am currently 14 and love to write. Making money from this blog would be great because I want to go to summer camp. Needless to say, it’s very expensive. I’m obviously a beginner and really know nothing about computers. I don’t really know what to do, but this article helped me try and get things organized. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I’m kinda clueless. God bless you!
The article is excellent and I thank you for sharing the information. I am very interested in starting a blog, but had no idea how to begin. Your article has saved me hours and hours of researching. I don’t know that I will be able to build a business, but am very impressed with what you have accomplished. I will continue to use this article as a reference.
Planning to start my blog soon. Your information is so simple and easy to follow. It is extremely helpful because of the time and effort you have put into explaining what could be a very overwhelmimg topic.
Thanks for sharing
I really need money right now. I’m not sure blogging is the answer, but I sure hope it is. Thanks for the information, you’re in my Favorites Bar for now. I’ll probably do a little more research. I’m glad to hear that you love your work, that is very inspiring to me.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!
This article is simply amazing — so much information synthesized in one place, it’s like reading a book but better.
Your article on how to start blogging was very informative. All the info was there explaining it logically. I also enjoyed your realistic approach to how long it is going to take you to earn money blogging. This is a great blog.
I’m young but have been recently going through some tough times and I was thinking it would be a good idea to create a blog for teens/tweens/young adults as a place to vent and express their opinions and get advice on certain topics. I’ve always wanted someone to talk and vent and express my opinions to without having a lectur follow, and thats what I want to create with my blog. I was wondering what the chances would be of making a profit or if this is even an idea worth pursuing.
hey i loved the article (just bookmarked it).
i was really interested in how it all worked and you answered all of my questions , im gonna give it a go and see what happens , i had started a blog a few years ago about my town but i had no idea what i was doing .
thanks for all the info and keep up the good work .
Thank you. Is there anyway to make money off an opinionated blog that people just get really into? Instead of writing useful articles..I know it sounds dumb, but I feel I could maybe make a blog similar to a TV show to where people want to know what I say next type of thing. I want to write articles, but more of random articles connected to my blog that people would have a humorous time reading possibly.
Thanks so much for this info.I would like to write an article about my journey in starting my blog and add a link to your blog. I have alot to digest and sort through from your article. Lots of information, I am so glad that you are so generous with your knowledge.
Thanks again and have a blessed day!
Lisa
Great article and I always enjoy the information here. I’m hoping to inspire people with my blog as well. Thanks again!
Thank you so very much for this generous amount of info..
It is a Blessing to recieve of your Blessings!
I will admit, my head is full and I am a bit overwhelmed, but I now know a little more than I did this morning!!
Great Blog! I was searching for information on how to make money blogging and your site was listed in one of the top searches in Google. Very informative and useful read for a beginner like me. It gave me the start I needed , thanks to you 🙂
Well, I’m a couple years late to the game here it looks like, but absolutely great stuff. Very little has changed in the last couple years, so this is all still very useful stuff!
Especially liked the section on ad placement and testing. I learned this lesson myself when my click-throughs for a specific ad block increased a good 50% simply by moving it down about 75 pixels. It sounds crazy, I know, but I tested it more than once and that simple minor move was definitely legit. Just like you said, test test and test!
Awesome guide!
Quick question for anyone to answer. About how many subscribers should I have on my blog before self-hosting my blog? I mean where it would be safe to assume I would be making money from my blog???
Thanks
I just want to start off by saying thank you. This was a great article for someone like me who is just starting out with this whole blog thing. It seemed very intimidating before but now I feel like I am starting to get the hang of it and with so many blogs and sites like this with free information on them I feel like the learning curve might not be all that bad. My blog is for helping people make money online using tools other than blogging to make money. And just like blogging it is not something that happens overnight some of the programs work better than others but if you are willing to put the time and effort in you will almost always see some sort of return that will be worth every minuet of hard work.
Fabulous article here. In fact, I’ve been inspired enough that for the past several days I’ve set about starting my own website/blog. Thank you so much for your words!
But there’s a glitch. I’ve gotten Adsense and Chitika to take a chance on me and I’ve generated codes, etc. to put on my Bluehost site. I just have no idea where to paste the codes to make them appear on my site. Any ideas?
I thought that I had submitted my query, but apparently not. Here goes again.
Bob, that was a fabulous and inspiring post! In fact, I have spent the past 4 days setting up my own blog (basiclawprof.com), powered by WordPress and hosted by Bluehost. I found a wonderfully manipulable Theme (the third one I experimented with) and just finished tweaking it this afternoon.
But for the life of me I cannot get my HTML to take an edit. So while I have accounts with both Adsense and Chitika, with ad codes ready to paste, I cannot put them on my Site.
I’m sorry to bother you, but can you (or anyone on this list) help me? I can get to the Source through either Mozilla or IE8, but my computer won’t let me modify the code from there.
Thanks for your help (both past and present),
Jim
I just wanted to thank you for writing this. I came across it about a month ago doing a google search. It put a seed in my brain since I was already writing a column for our local newspaper in rural Wyoming. I started a blog a week ago and have already had 400 hits. Thank you so much, as a pastor of a small rural church, I can see where this will let me continue to do what I love to do, and be released from being bi-vocational.
Blessings to you!
Thank you so much for this article!! I am an avid writer, with an opinion and have been searching for ways to make my opinion known to a larger audience, and yes, get paid for it. I decided to give blogging a try, and went searching for ways to make money off of a blog. I’ve saved this article to my favorites so I can reference it while I’m building my website. Thanks again!
Thanks for thinking about other as you have. I’m sure everyone appreciates it.
I thought the information you gave was very informative and needed, at least by me. I wish more people were interested in helping others without attaching a dollar sign to their posts.
I have a website which offers information on building sites and some of the problems found online and all if for free. I also have a blog, The Internet Snitch, which exposes frauds, scams hoaxes and viruses and how to remove them and this too, is free.
I do need more information from you so I will be looking forward to another post plus your newsletter.

Thanks for your informative articles. Do you ever read a blog and give insight? Please let me know anything I should know.
God Bless- k mangan
Amazing … so full of information, plus at least 40 different links to click on in order to learn even more, etc. THANKS! :+)
Great post! I ‘stumbled-upon” this at the right time. I’m in the process of diving into the blog world myself and I was looking for some insight. This is very helpful…I’ll definitely be passing it on. Keep up the great work!
this is awesome, thanks for all the advice this gives, although I’m not done reading the whole thing it’s a big help, because I’m very interested
I have a new website about home-farming and gardens and was wondering if you have tips for me. I have had websites in the past, but they did not pan out, to much competition and it was through GDI. I am on my own now and would like some advice, if you could help. Thanks
I have to say I really enjoyed this article. I have been a computer freak for the last couple of years, and have had a lot of time on my hands to really work on creating a blog that I could have made money from, but never realized that blogging could make me money. I am totally thankful for your article because I now have found my dream job in life-blogging. I know it will take a while, and a lot of hard work, but I am stoked about giving it a try. Thanks for all the tips. They should go along way on helping me reach my new goals…
Great post! Thank you for all of the great information. I plan on putting your advice to good use. I think that it is great that you are still getting so many comments on this post, even years later. Hopefully someday my blog will be doing so well!
Wow. So exhaustively to the point: earning through blogging. I once tried to earn money by blogging. Miserably failed. I admit I did not spend much time on it. This time I would set up another blog, and try as per the suggestions furnished in this article. Sounds like so helpful.
Thanks Bob for the great advice! I appreciate you putting all of this together in one easy to read article.
Your information is so helpful. I added it to my favorites! I was excited when I made my first .19 cents. I find bluehost to be easy to navigate as well. Thanks!
Thank you for this information. I too am a professional blogger in the network marketing industry. I appreciate your proof, and your method of over delivering. Great value here.
Thanks a lot for this awesome tips. I hope to make my blog more meaningful and interesting. This was truly an inspiration for someone like me who is a newbie. Thanks!
Hi Bob!
You have some excellent tips for increasing cash flow.
This is one of the first posts I read before I started my own blog, and I always go back to it to see how I can improve.
Thanks for your help!
I really appreciate these tips and I am using them to set up my blog. I have a question though. How do i add other ads to blogspot. i have adsense on it, but i want to add other adds as well and i am not sure what to do to get them on my blog! thanks for the help.
Bob,
I’ve just found your blog and this piece on starting a blog. I know it’s a couple of years old now, but still has incredibly useful information. My wife has recently retired and finally has the time to blog about her passion. I can’t wait to help her with the technical side and put your valuable information to work. Thank you VERY much.
You ARE truly AMAZING!!! Your blog deserves an AWARD!!! I am absolutely stunned with the amount of information you have provided in your post. It goes to show how much time you have spent to deliver GOOD QUALITY material for those of us who need it most. Nobody out there does that anymore. I appreciate all the efforts that were put into it.
Just found this yesterday. How inspiring! Thank you, Bob!
I read your article, and have learned so much from it and doing it, especially considering I’m not web design savvy. I’m really taking this seriously as an opportunity for financial freedom. I was on WordPress and got a free blog. I wrote a few posts, to build up my readers. Now, I signed up for Adsense. And the best option for me I thought, since I’m a newbie, was to do web hosting. I chose Bluehost. I know I’m learning little by little and many business people don’t wish to explain exactly how they do what they do. But from reading this article, I feel this is a place where my question will not be rejected as being stupid or to prevent competition. If someone would help me with this question.
I have my code for the ad, but don’t know where to place it. I spoke to Bluehost and they told me they don’t deal with ads so they couldn’t help me. I spoke to WordPress, and they said they won’t help either since I’m doing the installation. On Google, all I get is how to make the ad, and have the code to copy and paste it, but not where to actually put it on my new domain website. I feel like I’m getting the run around and I’m really anxious to get started. Where can I go to find the html to place the ad? Please advise. Thank you.
This a really good way to make money. I have many friends that have told me that they have made more then 500 dollars a month just by blogging about things they like. I would highly suggest this method.
i’m wondering how i would receive the money i earn from a blog. do they send you a check each month or is deposited in an account?
Your advice really helped me pay for my website. I didn’t go overboard, just enough to keep the bills paid for the site. I blog about what I love, and can now let the expenses take care of them self.
Hey Kristin, I have a question for you if you don’t mind. Did you pay someone to design your blog or you did it yourself and if you did is it successful just like that.
Thanks for the valuable information is the main thing is true of a website is the optimization of the page, the content also has to be quality and one of the most important things is to get links pointing to your site
Yours is a very informative article. I am just starting to research blogging and some of the language is foreign at this point but it will become clearer with time. Thanks for writing this and God bless you.
Great tips. I just started my own blog and I have not implemented many of these ideas.
Hey Bob. I just can’t thank you enough for writing this article. I am a totally blind webmaster, and I can identify with your story. Except that, as I just mentioned,–I can’t see. I was wondering if you could take a look at my blog and give me your opinion about my google adsense placement. Again, thanks for providing this for free. God bless you.
This is by far ..the clearest blog i ever read …step by step ,,
Thanks man , so much ..
Very Inspiring blog to be honest I am really aspiring to have my own blogs so with this, my decision is Final! you know what I mean 🙂
This is great! I’m a college student looking to make a few bucks on the side and blogging sounds like a great way to do it. I probably won’t have the time it takes to keep a blog (or the discipline) but it sounds like a fun thing to try.
This will be a positive reference for my simple blog. I like your presentation. The main lure of the obvious and make money blogging by Google adsense. it motivated me to put ads on my blog better. thanks:)
I am Inspired by your story, i also, dropped my 9-5 day job to go into full time blogging. Hope to post my own results under this page someday.
Thanks for sharing.
Hi,
I love this sight and that it has a Christian worldview attached to it. I am 25 and am VERY new to blogging, I was wondering if someone could help me through the Google Adsense installation. It keeps telling me that I need to paste a script thingy in the pages HTML source code or something like that but I am very new and wanted to know if someone could help a rookie.
I am extremely interested in blogging and trying to get involved in it.. First time here but am trying to learn so thinks for the advice.
I was really lost when just about to learn and start blogging. Now your blog has given me the guidance to start and be inspired again.
Wow, I was just looking for a short piece that said “do what I do” and did NOT expect so much awesome, helpful info! Thanks for what you do, and I hope it goes well for you. I am sure this won’t be as successful for me as for you, but it is encouraging and I hope you continue to thrive. God bless.
This post was the first link that popped up in Google. Obviously you’re doing something right! I am going to start my blog soon and have been reading as much as I can, and your post has excelled in being helpful! I’ve bookmarked this page and when I get my blog up and running I’ll definitely recommend you and your articles! Thanks a bunch!!!
Andrew Reichelderfer
p.s.- My blog will be more of a vlog (video blog) mostly about camping/hiking and outdoor recreation. Keep an eye out for my videos =]
After reading this article I altered the Title Tag on my blog to see what SEO benefits there will be.
Such a great article. Just wanted to say that this was helpful and you have inspired me to go after what I really want to in life.
Your articles is giving basic to professional training i have opted few of the points and will use them for my blog, thank for the deep analysis done on the matter
These are great tips! I’ve had my blog up and running for a little over a week so I have a lot to learn. Thanks for all the great advice!
Thank you so much! You have an amazing blog and i hope one day i can have one as good as yours!
Bob, I just want to thank you for giving me all the tools to create my website. I seriously had no computer/website experience prior. You made everything simple to understand, and though I have been constructing my blog for about 7 months now (learning the ins and outs), it’s pretty close to where I want it to be aesthetically. I seriously couldn’t have done it without this article. Thanks a bunch. I am sure you helped more than just me with it.
Hi Bob,
Many thanks for sharing this article. Very useful and a motivator for me as I have been blogging for money and have started this vocation fairly recently, Knowing how other successful bloggers went about achieving success helps and increases the drive to continue.
So Thank you again
Zubair
Great blog! Thank you for your very informative articles! Here is a question for you: how do you keep people from posting inappropriate comments to your blogspot? I am certain that almost every human being has people in their past that wish to or would seek to discredit them if given the opportunity. Is this avoidable? I am talking about comments that go well beyond disagreements or constructive criticism, such as bashing, sharing of inappropriate personal information, etc. In addition, how do you keep up with all emails and/or is it necessary to respond to every comment? Thanks for your input!
Hi Bob, amazing information. This is the first set of material I have read regarding flogging and it is inspiring! In the past few months, several people have hinted or directly stated to me, “You should start a blog”. Much like many it seems I have no idea what a blog is. I thought take a chance, go online and see what it is about, still not positive this is the venue I should use, but am excited to at least, “Teach this old dog something new”. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!
Thank you for sharing. I have a new blog and by reading your article, I got plenty of ideas for my blog to success.
Dear Bob,
I just read your post from start to finish and found it very helpful and inspiring. I have one big question though: I currently have a wordpress blog (the free kind). Is there a way to make money with this version? I’ve done some research, and it appears the answer is no, unless you have a large following pre-established. I thought I’d ask you, in case you knew something I didn’t.
Thanks, and great article!
Hi Bob,
First, let me say thank you for all of the helpful info you have put on your site. I recently began a mom blog…pretty much I just want to encourage young moms (as well as myself) to become GREAT moms. So far your site has been my primary resource for getting started, but there is one area I’m struggling with…what do you do about copyright for your blogs? (If you discuss this somewhere and I’ve overlooked it, please forgive the question.) I’ve been a little conflicted by some of the different things I’ve found on the web and just figured I’d ask you. I greatly appreciate any help and thanks again for all of the wonderful info on blogging. I haven’t been at it for long, but am really enjoying it so far and surprisingly it seems to be helping me in my goal to become a better mom, “one whoops at a time” =). Blessings to you, sir!
Elizabeth from “Mommon Sense”
Wow thats a great resource of blogs I have learnt so much and will look forward to putting these into practice so that I can start earning money too.
Bob,
Great article! I have been blogging for full-time for just about a year now. One thing I know that I struggled with was being disciplined to blog everyday. A great resource that I used was by Darren Rowse from Pro Blogger. His shook is “31 Days to Better Blogging!” Plus, he just released a new version. Anyway, I am going to implement some of your strategies.
Hi Bob,
The article on the basics of blogging was simply stupendous. To say it was ‘great’ would be an understatement. Before landing on your page, I’ve been to many more websites and weblogs, but didn’t find this valuable an information.
For an aspiring blogger, your blog has surely saved me years of hard work; and what more, I know exactly from where and how to begin. And more importantly, what pitfalls to avoid and what frame of mind to adopt to be successful at blogging.
Thank You so much Bob.
Hello,
I have tried many programs through internet. After reading your blog and one more another blog I have decided to follow the instructions of you both. I am little involved in forex and I want to grow that way. I am also getting forex tips from Karl Dittman. So his tps are the main attraction of my blog. There is nothing much in my blog. I have Just started. I have to use the blog to earn from google adsense as well. This blog consists of different types of forex indicators and it will be really useful for forex traders. I am waiting for your valuable comments and instructions.
Thanks
Sobha
Am so greatful for this information, thanks a lot. This is what I was looking for but couldn’t find anywhere.
Thanks a ton!!
WOW! Great info! I just added Adsense and was overly excited to see I made 0.38!
A wonderful resource of info. Just shows how perseverance and hard work can pay off.
thank you very much for all this info, its help a lot to understand how blog work’s, i well try to do everything to get it.
Thanks for sharing your bloging information with those of us who want to share their ideas and knowledge with others.
Thanks, Bonnie
Thank you very much, it is nice and very practical tips.
Hello-
I truly have enjoyed this article and bookmarked it as a favorite. I come back to it for pointers pretty regularly.
One of the things that I want to do is a guest blog article. Your article mentions this as a way to get 20,000 people to a site immediately. I assume that this statement is predicated upon writing a guest blog for a site with 20,000 followers. I have yet to find a site with over 5,000 followers and have found only one of them. Do you have a list of sites that might have 20,000 followers?
Please let me know,
Kathy Robbins
Great stuff
One question…how about security?
For example, when one is an affiliate, using a legal entity such as an LLC to say, Amazon, what information would a purchaser be able to see?
The reason I ask is because, unfortunately, there are those who react inappropriately, even violently, to opinions, etc that differ from theirs.

God bless
Thanks for sharing all these valuable tips!
This helped a lot. I thought about starting my own blog about making money also. I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on it. Thanks.
So, true. You have to do a lot of work to make money blogging. Everyone thinks you can’t make money blogging, but you can. There are so many nay-sayers out there. Many people just aren’t trying hard enough or working hard enough at it. You have to be consistent. You can’t post one blog post and expect riches. It actually has to be a job, at least for a while. I am conducting an experiment and documenting it in my blog where I discuss how to make money blogging: onlinemoneytrip.blogspot.com. This is to see if creating a ton of free content rich blogs with ads and affiliate products that are highly marketed can create an income. I know it can, that’s why I’m doing it. But I have to do it to prove it to everyone that it’s possible if you put the work in.
Thanks again for all the tips. I always enjoy reading what you have to say, and I always gain a lot of knowledge from you. You’re awesome!
~Lisha
Thank you for so generously sharing. This might help me do ministry better in a number of ways. God bless you bro
The information you have shared is every so helpful. I appreciate your website, honestly, and clear direction.
I am starting my own blog, and like so many others, and you at one point, have never done this before! However, I am excited. I have a question…
I have gone so far as to purchase a domain name (a .com name). I have not yet found a hosting site or set up a wordpress account. I am still navigating my way through this and am not ready to spend the money on paying the monthly service fee until I have some time to set up and get my feet wet. If I go with wordress.com and get a free blog site, will I be able to LATER switch to my hosted site and keep all of my previous entries? Or will I be starting over?
Nothing but awesomeness. I don’t know if there is a post out there that compares in terms of quality and depth that c overs this topic.
I may have to edit my top 6 internet marketing websites lists to include yours!
The fact that this article is still amazingly helpful and relevant two years later testifies to the “rightness” of your unique pathway in blogging for a living. Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been sitting here taking notes on this article and am excited to start blogging. I blog at work…but I already make money on that. I want to blog individually as well and this is like a turbo-boost to help me get started. God bless you for your willingness to contribute such useful content for free 🙂
I’m so glad I found this blog, great information from someone who is a full time blogger. Just the kinda of information I needed, biggest takeaway from this post was Avoid time wasters. Thanks, and so true!
Thanks so much!! This was great… I’ve been hesitant up until now about the whole blogging scene and you’ve inspired me to start my own!
Thanks so much for writing this article, very good information here. I have been writing about a year now for Examiner.com, and I am just now noticing an increase in earnings. I like to write articles, and am seriously thinking about starting a blog. Thanks for sharing very much appreciate the information. I am the Televangelism and Christianity Examiner at Examiner.com. Thanks again and God Bless You!
My question, and I’m not sure if it has been answered, is how do you pay taxes on this? I mean, if this does become your job and you begin making money on it, how is it reported and all that jazz?
Thank you for the article though. It got me to want to try something I’ve wanted to do for a while.
Thanks,
Jon
wow…thanks for the great tips! God bless!
Thank you Bob! Very informative article. I too want to start my own blog and gradually build it up to earn good income. I have been going thru a lot of websites looking for guidance. No hesitation in saying your article was the best!
I am banking on my qualities like hard work, persistence and patience for this. I have no formal training to write and don’t think have the flare too. But will practise on it. I have more than one topic in mind and am confused as to will it be a mess if I write on more than one topic on one blog. Moreover, could you tell me if the web hosts you have mentioned cater to customers outside the US as I live in the Sultanate of Oman!
Will be eternally grateful for your suggestions!
Thanks,
Dianez
Your site, and your advice, are superb. Your articles are well-written and clear, honest and frank, very useful, and I an surely many others are benefitting from your shared wisdom and experience. Thank you!

When I write a blog about my experience in learning to make my own website, I give so much credit to you and include this link to my site.More Power.
WOW….thanks for the blog christianpf it was very helpful.
To make money in a new and safe way
And who doesn’t need to make money these days? haha…
Thank you for your article! You were able to explain a complex subject (to a beginner like me) in a way that made sense. I appreciate the direction and inspiration!
God Bless!
Great info, thanks for all of the great advice, i plan on making several blogs in several niches to hopefully earn a little money from them. Thanks for the pointers!
great info! it answered many of my questions.
GREAT article! Thanks for all of the information!!
Thank you for your articles. I have read it and inspirated me to learn more n more about blogging. I hope i can be like you…
I agree, I think that what we’re seeing is that more and more people are becoming authors and creating their own products. And you’re right, webmasters get to keep 100% of the revenue from their own products being sold on their site, while ad networks pay a much smaller portion of earnings. The situation should get better and better, as barriers to entry for both decrease year after year. Perhaps we will reach a point when everyone is selling their own product directly.
Thank you for your generosity and sharing this information. It’s a Godsend. It’s bookmarked and will be used for future reference. May the Lord continue to bless you!!!
Your website is a tremendous blessing. I have bookmarked it. Thank you so much!
I’ve been making just a little bit of money from adsense on my blog, but now I will be taking the advice you’ve given in this article and trying to put it to good use! Thanks!
Very well done! I’ve seen much of this info, but you did a great job in making it coherent. I’m just getting my blog off the ground, and it’s great to read real-world info from someone who’s successful in this field.
I’ll be back often.
Rick
Bob:
Couple of questions for you.
At your suggestion, I signed up for Bluehost a year ago. But I’m not considering switching to HostGator. (And I’m happy to see that you did the same thing–kinda validates my own thoughts on this being a good idea…) But I wanted to ask you–what was your experience like transferring your sites? Is this a difficult process, with downtime involved?
One of the benefits offered by HostGator is UNLIMITED URLs…and considering I’ve already purchased additional URLs in the past few months, I see that I would have actually paid less, overall, had my site been hosted by HostGator.
Also–wondering why you keep sites hosted at multiple providers, if you have one favorite provider. Doesn’t that cost more? If you only had one host with unlimited site hosting, you’d only have one monthly fee–instead of fees from several providers.
You have been such a blessing. Reading your articles has impacted my life in many ways. Continue to let God use you!
What a wonderful, well thought out and very informative article! I will be lookin into your tips today!
Why have I never seem this article before??
Well done on your success and all the best for the future!
Rachael
It has been so long since you posted this, you might not even read comments here any longer, but I just now found this wonderful article and want you to know it was very helpful. I have blogged for many years now, but am trying to make a little more $$ at home. I enjoyed reading and learning on this article, and I am impressed that you take the time to help others. That is what it is all supposed to be about……….right? God bless you in your work and future endeavors. Blessings,Kathleen
Wow Bob,
Very encouraging story on how you got started! Just says a lot to never stop and never quit, even when things get hard. I know that its been a struggle to keep blogging but I am going on 2 years strong and just now am starting to see a difference.
Thanks for taking the time to write this article. Definitely a motivational pick up for me!
thanks for such a useful article. sent it to lots of friends!
Now that the Good Lord has allowed me the time to devote to my passion, I discovered your blog. You have provided great advice, links and strategies. I will likely return on a regular basis.
Thank you so much for the information! I definitely am going to try this all 🙂 have you ever heard of wealthy affiliates? It’s supposed to be an all-in-one website business starter. I’m not a part of it but I wonder what youve heard about it.
The content is really very useful. It helps us to discover the huge monetary potential in blogging and this will definitely motivate us to move forward.
I don’t hate what I do at my job, I just miss my little girl. I will be back to study this more. I googled “how to make money with a blog” and found you I don’t know how much I read before I realized I was at seedtime.com 🙂
God Bless you.
Thank you so much for these articles! I have wanted to blog for years but I’ve hesitated in the past because I didn’t know the first thing about how to start a blog and go from there. For the past few weeks, something has been nagging at me to just do it and then I found these articles. I hope you realize how truly appreciated sharing your knowledge is!
Thanks for all the tips…I’m more of a small time/funny girl blogger myself, and I don’t plan on making tons of cash through my blog, but I enjoy the writing and have been curious if signing up for Adsense would be worth my while or not.
I really appreciate all the sources and blogging tips as well. You have a great ministry here…glad you can do it full-time!
hey!
Great blog post! I started a couple blogs a few years back and had to best of intentions of making some money from them. I was researching seo, decorative themes and also had a journal with my handwritten article ideas that I intended to add to my blogs. Trust me, I call myself doing it all to perfect it. Then, life happened. I had to find a steady paycheck. Then my lifestyle led to the creation of my daughter (who is now 14months old)!! I”ve been working and taking care of her. But it all comes back to wanting to live a comfortable life, being able to provide for my daughter, raise her as a Christian, becoming a better Christian myself, and living life to the fullest and not just coasting through life. I say all of that to say- great blog, very insightful, helpful and detailed. I will be returning as often as I’m allowed with a toddler attached to my every move, (lol) to use your knowledge as a guide to getting back into my blogging career. And here’s a note- blogging full time is another form of entrepreneurship and I studied entrepreneurship for nearly four years in college. Trust me, a high degree of accomplishment comes from being your own boss and being in charge. So to all Bloggers- Take Charge and Flourish! keep a look out I plan to make a name for myself in some form of business..
I feel dumb asking this question but collect the money that is sent to you, is it thru paypal or your bank account? How do people actually pay to read what you write?

Hi Bob,
I have two questions:
1) How can I add the privacy page?
2) I tried joining in your forum to submit a guest post, but I have trouble with the question segment. They are asking for a two questions and I can’t figure that out.
Cheers
I can’t tell you how much this has helped me. I just started a blog, and I want to do it right from the beginning. Right now, I only have a few viewers a day. I bookmarked this page and refer to it regularly. Thank you so much for sharing honestly. It’s hard to find this information because everyone is afraid you’re going to outdo them I think. Again, I can’t thank you enough!
Thank you so much for these articles! I’ve always wanted to start a blog but had NO idea how to get it off the ground. I can’t wait to put your tips to good use 🙂
I like material written heartfelt and I have been searching for a website like yours to improve my understanding of blogging. So, I’ve only just landed here and I have a bit of reading to go yet; however, I already can connect with your site better than some of the other “big boys” on the net (and I’ve even read some of their books) but your blog’s clearer.
Well done and thanks for the well-written info.
Mark
Hi Bob
Thanks for the great tip. I am contemplating buying facebook fans. From your experience, do you think it is worthwhile doing it? If so, which company delivers genuine fans to you?
Thanks in advance.

Bob, this is a great article. I have wanted to learn how to do this for sometime. I love to write and have alot of spare time in the winter to get this up and running. I have been following your guidelines step by step but, I have a question. I have two blogs with WordPress.com so, I thought I would have no problem figuiring out WordPress.org. Big problem. I am completely computer illiterate and just keep trying till I finally figuire things out. I am determined to complete this (it will not defeat me!! I hope!) Can you are one of your readers tell me how on earth I get into my wordpress.org setup. I have spent hours trying to find things with no luck. I am a very visual person and if I can see it I can usually do it. Please help!! I can’t find the buttons! Ha!
Thanks,
Lori Bryant
Bob, never mind!! I just found you page that helps set up the word press blog! I can never thank you enough!! I have signed up.
Thank you,
Lori B.
Can’t understand why you wouldn’t have gotten tons of great feedback from all the information you have shared about earning money blogging. Prior to reading your articles, I only had a vague idea that blogs can be profitable. Due to some major life changes, I find myself unemployed and feverishly trying to find a job. In the back of my mind has always been the idea that i might be able to suppliment my income if I could find a good way to do so. Your articles have been a huge help to me and I am sure that I will continue to refer back to them as I work on creating my own blog. I thank you for all your time, effort, and the good energy you have put into your blog….l
Very interesting reading. Planning on getting a blog going in the near future and all of the information you are providing will be put to good use. Great article. Thanks a million.
why is it that one person has all the money needed to live a happy fulfilled life and another person in the same oupation cant manifest two nickles to rub togeather? The answer is found in scripture one man is rich in his mind and the other the victim of a proverty mentality(proverbs as a man thinketh in his heart or sub consious mind so is he.
Thanks for writing a thorough article about making money from blogs. I learn something new and hope to test drive your ideas soon. what a wonderful article!!
Great and well manage website/ article. Thank you! I will be right back!
wow…
its really help me as beginner blogger…
thanks a lot…
I read this, and got inspired to start up my own blog business 😛 Its nice to read a guide that is very honest, and not the “full of lies” ones that you see everywhere that say things like “oh yeah, make a blog and you will be earning $300 in your first month!”
Great Blog, i bookmarked this page as a reference for my future endevours
Hi Bob, thanks for an enlightening and well written article.
I combine articles and inspirational quotes on my site and I was looking for ways to generate more traffic. Thanks to you I have found them.
I will be putting a lot of this into practice to improve my ranking.
All the best.
Paulyn
Great article. One question though, I am fairly new to blogging and I use wordpress.com, how do I get ads on my wordpress blog? I have heard you can’t just upload ads if you use wordpress. Do you need to purchase a domain? This would be of great help of you or someone reading this could respond. [email protected]
Wow! Absolutely priceless information. Thanks for everything!
Great work from a great guy. Very expository. Keep it up Bob. God bless you.
Hi, I’m a beginner blogger, I have so much to learn, and reading all these posting and Bob’s web site I’m excited and afraid all at the same time. My mind goes into so many different directions. Reading all of your posting makes me feel better about this undertaking.
Thanks for sending out your imputs and feelings about blogging.
I will continue to read and learn.
Thanks Again
Phyllis
Bob: Thanks for a great primer on blogging. I have a great niche idea for a blog website and you have helped me immensely. I wish you continued success.
Great post! For those saying your giving it all for free, they’re overestimating the idea and underestimating execution 🙂
It sure would be nice to make money from just one page on my site. For some reason, a post I wrote about cooking steel cut oats overnight in a crock pot, using the crock as a double-boiler, has been a huge resource with thousands of hits. Is there a way to make money on only one page so that less popular pages on my site aren’t peppered with adsense ads?
This article will remain in my favorites for many more months to come. It has become the hallmark of how I have designed my website and have been methodically implementing the techniques and strategies as they have come up.
I want to urge potential bloggers of the importance of budgeting your time and coming up with a plan for development of your blog. Getting your head high in the sky with getting rich is fine, but you cannot let it control your whole day because it is likely that it will. When you first start and you do not see instant results it hurts and confuses you.
The biggest bit of advice I can urge is to write because you like it initially and use it as a project. For example, my blog I am using as a supplement to my resume. I will be able to show employers I can methodically update it with quality content. I am hardworking and consistent. Do not quit your day job. Make it a hobby that will eventually make money.
The other thing is do not be afraid to invest money in your blog. But do not go over board. Focus on quality content, a great domain name, and excellent hosting. Tons of images and graphics are distracting and may be a waste of money. You want your readers to enjoy the readings and be able to read them quickly.
By far one of the most thorough blog posts I’ve ever read. And definitely the most throrough for how to make money blogging.
🙂
Great information!! 5 STARS!!! People are looking for ways on how to earn money online but few are successful because they are using the wrong tools. Blogging is an effective way to make money online. I have found now the effective site that will also help make an outstanding numbers.
I enjoyed reading this post, although I don’t blog directly for money. There is another way to make money with a blog which is blogging to communicate with your subscribers. In this model, the blog isn’t used as the primary way to earn an income, but it does help to maintain an already existing income, and sell additional products to existing buyers.
Plus it can also act as a way to listen to customers and prospect needs to create new products in the future.

Bob, thanks for writing this fantastic article. It was enough to get me really fired up about starting my own blog–and maybe make some money in the process! Even if I don’t get money anytime soon, at least I get to spend time dabbling in my interests and sharing helpful information with other people.
Ever since I read this article, I’ve referred to it repeatedly for lots of useful information. Thanks for the free advice!
Andrew
And thank you so much for the fantastic article. im definitely using all these tips and tricks
Very interesting facts you have here about blogging helped me out a lot thanks
Just like Luke, I also appreciated the free information. Thanks!
Great post. I’m wondering how much a month you make blogging these days.
Thanks!
In general I like the article very much. I’ve even forwarded it to one of my best friends because she and I would both love to work from home. That being said, I’ve not seen an answer to your question, but I’m very interested to know how much is made by working 10 hours a week. The chart shows how long it took to see an increase in revenue, but it didn’t say what the revenue was. 10 hours a week to make $20 per month is a lot of hard work for peanuts. The chart would have made more sense if it had shown the Y Axis in dollar amounts, but there is no gauge at all. Is the highest point $5, $20, $500? Nobody knows. She says that she makes enough to pay her bills each month and that this has replaced her day job. But there are a lot holes in those statements. Was her day job part time or full time? Is she single and carries the whole load herself or is she 1 of three roommates and has minimal bills? She says nothing about the actual $$$. That scares me. Her disclaimer is that you won’t get rich over night. I get that. Kudos to her for doing all the leg work and sharing with us how to do it. There ia a lot of salesmanship here. I am laid off and would love to work from home. That is why I’m interested and that is why I’m concerned.
Just began my blogging adventure on poetry and creative expressions, and stumbling upon this article truly encouraged me greatly. Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone. Wishing you all the best, and God bless.
Bob, thank you for this excellent post. I am starting a blog and am finding this all very foreign, but you have helped me get past a few stumbling blocks. I’m still searching for someone to explain AdSense in terms I can understand, though. Maybe a future topic geared toward people who know *nothing* about it????

Bob,
Thank you so much for this site. It has helped me and so many other people. I am about to transition out of the Army, and would love nothing more than to me a living from this. I will of course have a day job until that’s possible, but I’m grateful to have such a great resource to help me along the way! Thanks again!
This article is a great inspiration for me. I know I’m still far from my blogging goals, but I’ll definitely get there as long as I’m persistent. I learned a lot from this.
Thanks for sharing this info, wish I will be successful to my blogs. thanks again
That was an amazing article. Thank you for giving us all that info for free! Im going to try and use all the tools you just gave me. Thanks again!
Thank you so very much for all the pertinent infromation. I have been trying to figure out this whole blogging thing and you have explained it in such detail. You are an amazing person to just put it all out there for the world to see/use. Thank you!
I hope to see you commenting on my site some day 😉
The whole article have given me a head start to pursue my website. I am publishing supernatural experience on my site which is prophetic word of wisdom daily. Thanks for locating your site
Hey Mine just gave me a message saying Your payments are currently on hold. Action is required to release payment. and i think my earnings dropped right after. IS this a trick?
Great article. I am currently working on my blog and it is a lot of work. Hopefully in two years I will see the success that you have.
Hello,
I wonder if you can help me out with some advice. I would like to blog about a book I have written. Do you think that would work? I thought that I would put on a couple of pages daily until I have published my book on a blog. Another question is, could people copy these pages? After all It took me about 4 years of work on this book and am still hoping to sell it through a blog. what do you think? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. This resource article was very helpful
Thanks a bunch.
Hi Savanna.
Just wondering what the feed back was about doing your book as a blog???
I too was thinking along the same lines, so please take a minute to let me know.
Thanks.
Helen
Very interesting, I haven’t tested the privacy policy thing, or the start/end tags and will try those. How many sites do you run to get $1500 per month in AdSense, and what are your top performers averaging per month individually?
This post is one of my absolute favorites on blogging and has been the most honest and comprehensive method on the topic. I have worked on systematically applying these methods and suggestions over the short course of two months that I have had a blog. I have not made any money yet, but this is due in large part to the particular niche I am targeting and the competition that I have. Nevertheless I have watched my Alexa rank jump several million positions in just these two short months, far more than many websites that are years old. Similarly I have acquired some extremely beneficial and arguably rare back links from high ranking websites. I have been aggressive with social media, although it is not paying off as well as I expected. Most of my traffic comes from forums I post on and has recently exploded. Thanks again! It is in my favorites and I will continue to check back on it as needed.
Very nice article especially for a new blogger such as myself. Looks like I have much to learn but it’s very exciting and even though my blog is only 3 weeks old, I believe I’ve found my niche. I like to talk about video games, and blogging is my outlet to not only talk about my passion for games but also to help other gamers out looking for that edge. Thanks again!
I am not looking to get rich fast, but it would be nice to make a small income on the side, especially doing something I love… How early is too early to start using these tools you suggested? I am really interested in Google AdSense, but, I don’t have a large amount of followers at this point… On the other hand, every time I publish a new story, I gain a few more followers. Would you suggest that I wait until I have x amount of followers?
This is by far the most helpful single resource out there for getting started. I’m following as much of your advice as I can. As soon as I get a decent links page set up your site will definitely be on there!
Thank you so much, this is awesome information. And nice to get info from a christian, I am a reborn christian. I am a mom of 4 and I am so keen to start my own baking company one day, and I think starting a blog about my cakes and bakes is a good way to start, so if you have any further tips for me, I would really appreciate it.
Regards
Nadine
Thank you for you for sharing your wisdom! It helped me get started! Blessings to you!
I am simply out of words… amazingly written… got to learn loads and loads of new things… Thank you very-very much for this awesome article…
Very Informative. This Article explains the blogging process step by step. Great post.
Great article. You’ve given me so much to think about and now, more than ever, I want to go out and try to help people with my own blogging. I wish you continued success!
It’s nice to see people still wanting to help others for free. Thanks so much for the information.
This is an extremely good, detailed article. I do not have a blog yet but thinking of making one so I was researching. Thank you so much for this info, it cleared up so many confusing points for me. I have bookmarked the page for future use so I will be linking to it soon.
Hi there,
I just read this entire article and am so grateful I found you! What a blessing you are to provide this information for free to help out newbies and anyone else wanting to try and make money blogging. I am having a micro niche site created for me right now (should be live in a day or so). I didn’t get to choose the niche (fleas?) . This will be my start with IM and I want to start a blog and your information is the easiest to comprehend that I’ve found. This can be an intimidating venture and you help make it not so much, which is an answered prayer! So thanks again!
Nice article Peter! I wish I had come across this before when you were making all those logos for my sites! This is a great overview of getting started blogging! I started my own personal finance blog 4 years ago and I too have experienced the rewards (both financial and otherwise) that blogging can bring. Additionally, I’ve learned a lot through the process and met a lot of great people! All this because I decided to try something different one day! There is certainly a lot of competition these days when it comes to blogging so I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much for overnight success, but if you’re passionate about a particular topic and stick with it, readers will come!
This is such a wonderful guideline. so many people are gonna be helped by this .Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thank God for good souls like yourself. If you only knew what your information means to someone like me. I can litteraly write a book about all of the fruitless jobs that I have been through, in fact I have already started. I couldn’t thank you enough if I tried for an hour. Just know that you are doing some real good things for some people who realy need it.BT
I know this has been posted for awhile now, but I have to say I just started blogging and found this very helpful. Thanks for the great info!
Thanks for taking the time to post this information for everyone to access for free! I appreciate your simply put “no nonsense – straight forward” advice.
nice God bless you very much.
Excellent! Really informative article. Can’t wait to start my own blog…
The Most educational article on professional blogging I’ve read yet. Also the most inspirational. Crazy how the lord works sometimes. Just the fact that I was reading up on this subject and the article that has been the most helpful is on a christian blog that isn’t even necessarily about blogging is some good confirmation for me and my plans. Thank you for the education and confirmation.
Thanks a lot for all the tips, this really helps a lot. I had no idea about making money with a blog and now I have the starting information and insider tips all in one.
It really is a great guide. I am reading it now the third time to remember all the important things.
Thanks so much for all of this advice! This is probably the first webpage (out of many) that I have read that is honest and helpful. You are very giving in your knowledge…I am sure that many have benefited from your wisdom and experience! I currently have my own blog, and would like to start to monetize it a little (just to see what happens). I would love to be able to stay home with my children and run my blog for a living, but I realize that earning that kind of money will take time (in order to surpass what I make with my full-time teaching job). Hopefully, with your tips, I can begin to realize my dream! Thanks so much again and Merry Christmas!
Hey- I just happen to come across your comment. I just had my first child in October and have been writing a blog about her and my experiences as well. I am staying at home with my daughter (one of my last post was about this). I was also a full time teacher, now I’m going to watch a few other children in my home, which will almost supplement all of my teaching salary. Have you ever thought of that? That way you can stay at home, still make money, and blog! There’s a huge market for it!
Hi, Ashley! First of all, thanks for responding to my comment! Also, I think it’s wonderful that you have been able to stay home and supplement what you made teaching…that is quite an accomplishment! I know that I can eventually do what you suggested if I put all of my efforts into it. However, I do know that it will take time to make the $75,000/yr. I make teaching. Since I also provide insurance and retirement, I would have to look into those options. My husband makes less than half what I make, so I definitely have to have some sort of income. The neighborhood that I am in seems to be made up of many SAHM who care for other children, so I would have to really market myself there! How long did it take you to get to where you wanted to be with your income? Once again, congrats to you for following your dream…I hope to one day get to where you are! 🙂
Thanks for sharing! I think most people starting out blogging have a lot to learn and just following up on what you have suggested will keep me busy anyway.
I also intend on passing this on, I will link this article from my blog also because it has been an inspiration to start writing when I was in between jobs during the holidays. Merry Christmas 2011! -Adrian
After reading your article, I am about to start a blog. While testing it, I used the Jetpack subscription widget. I created a subscriber, however, I am unable to see the subscriber list.
Also, I did a registration on the blog with another email id, so a user as a subscriber was created. However, this user (as a subscriber role) does not get the updates on new posts.
Can you help? I used wordpress.
Thanks so much for the information! My Dad has been telling me for awhile to “publish”- although I think he means “publish” as in write a book- my blog. I’ve given it a little thought. I’m afraid that the “Mommy Blog” market is all taped out, but I guess I don’t need to make tons of money off it! Even just a few dollars would be neat, I write in it almost every day anyways! Worth a try! Thanks again!
Thank you for the information. I have started a blog but have sporadically posted (only four since 2008). I want to be serious about this in the coming year. These articles have helped me understand some of the things I need to do. Thanks again.
gr888 article….
Thank you for your article, I believe it will be a great help getting me started. I do have a question though, you mentioned allowing Guest Posting. How is that done? Also I am new to blogging and hate the free twenty eleven theme I am using but cannot afford to purchase a real theme yet, can you recommend a free them to use? Thank You for your time. Ed
Thanks for this article it will give an old man a lot of info to start blogging. At last I’m finding the time to make a start as web site above is dormant at the moment.
Thanks again
Ian
This is very useful information. I would love to see how things are different if you were to write it today. I joined the Yakezie Challenge (it didn’t start at the time that you wrote this) and I have learned a lot from a bunch of people who have learned or are learning right now. Also I use Market Samurai. I don’t think that was out at the time either. Any follow ups would be great. I will repost this too because it is invaluable and is how you would like to be repaid.

Yeah this guide has helped me double the money I am currently making off of my comedy blog.
That is great! How much were you making each month and how much are you makeing now?
I am definitely starting my blog after reading this article. I am prompted to stop my head-scratching and chin rubbing and put my ideas out there in my own blog! Thank you so much for sharing generously!
Thank you so much for the info.. It was really useful.. 🙂
This is the best article that I have read by far. Everything is easy to understand, very thorough, and easy to read. Thank you for such a great article. I am new to blogging, and will be constantly reading your blog as well as adding yours as a blog I read.
awesome article!
I too make a full time income online and a lot of the information, tools and resources you mentioned are what I use.
Look forward to reading more articles of yours.
Cheers
Thank you so much for sharing what you know about blogging and how to earn money on blogs. It was an enjoyable and eye opening experience. I will be back again to learn more from you. Keep up the great work!
I am everything this blog is describing…not tech savy, don’t participate in Facebook, and don’t even tweet (or is it twitter?) But I am seriously considering starting up a blog. This is the very first site I have accessed to find out what all is involved in getting started, and I must say, I am both extremely impressed as well as very grateful for the detailed and honest information. So here is my first question….You talk about picking a domain name. I don’t quite understand what that is. Is it the title of your blog, or is the Title Tag the title of your blog? Thanks for helping newbies like myself get started.
Extreme amount of information. Very nice website and an encouragement. I would have never thought that Host Gator would give out a special code. I have been using them for 3 years and like them a lot. I worked for several large hosting companies and would say Host Gator is top notch. Now that they are a domain registrar it will be interesting to see what happens now.
God Bless!
Thank you so much for the clarity and good spirit of your article, I’ve posted a Privacy Policy on my new site on another browser as I was reading it!
I’ve invested a lot of time for years in the web and am occasionally asked to write articles there but have made very little money on the web so far. Your article suggests ways of actually getting paid well to do what I love – writing. I love it!
Thanks again and all the best. PS The site above is one I’ve just started, it may evolve into another name. Fun!
Wow. This is one of the best articles I have read on this subject and greatly appreciate your honesty and generosity in sharing all of this information. Thank you!!!
Wonderful article. Wish I had this information 3 years ago when I started my blog. Like you, I learned the hard way and already was up to speed with some of your tips, but you definitely gave me some new ideas. I may be contacting you to ask you to write a guest piece regarding family budgeting for my blog. Thanks again for the great information!
Because of you… I have my very own blog! It took me a couple of days to get it up and running… but I have to thank you for everything! You are pretty damn awesome! Keep up the awesome work! I will be a loyal follower for sure!
Awesome just awesome article. Its really for all newbie….. Thanks.
Also i wanted to know, if i start with the free virsion just to get aquainted with programs and how all work, can I then upgrade to the paying version with out losing all my information?? thanks sooo much
Your article is the very first article that I clicked onto,in order to find out about blogs.Your article was very good, although it still sounds very complicated for an average person to comprehend.I wish that I was smart enough to have one,so that I could try to bring in enough money to buy some health insurance and to feed all my cats. I will keep reading and trying to learn more about this type of income. Thank You for your article and your honesty.
Thank you soooo much. I am in tons of debts and my job isn’t cutting it alone. I just started blogging and this is highly valuable info thank you.
Wow that really is the most comprehensive article on blogging and SEO I have every read! Great work!
Thanks for the interesting and well written article. My blog has been running for over two years and I have finally started to earn slightly more than 10 cents a month! Still a long way to go. Your advice is very useful.
Thank-you for publishing this article. I cannot wait to get started on my very own blog! And I have I have some of the tools ill need to makes this a successful blog. I am going to read your your blogs also! Once again though for thank-you for sharing your knowledge with the rest of us who have something to day but not ex exactly how to go about it.,
Victoria-Brynn
Thanks so much. This was the first site that Ive looked at and Ive wrote down notes. Ive always been told that I should write a book then I looked into blogs…with God first many things will come to life. I love the way you have acknowledged Christ. Im a mother of 6 boys and Ive had a pretty hard life and I facilitate a bible study in my church for women and they always say how my words have helped them. I say all this to say you have given me hope and you have made me believe that I can start my own blog. Thanks so much for your valuable free information…may God continue to bless your work.
I know this post took a lot of time to write, and I thank you for taking the time. I’ve been working online full time for years, and a lot of my friends have been asking me to write down the basics of how to get started, but I haven’t yet found the time. Now I’ll just send them the link to this article. A great primer on getting started.
Thank you, thank you thank you. I stumbled upon your site 5 months ago when I wasn’t sure about trying to make a website. I’m very non-techie & I felt intimidated at the time. When I found your article, it gave me clear direction which gave me confidence to try. Been having a blast ever since. Now I’m re-reading this article and am gaining so much more. (Some of the things I didn’t understand before seem clearer now that I’m a wee bit experienced.) Thank you for helping me muster up the courage to try.
Have an incredible day!
Stacey
Bob,
This was an amazing article and the most informative I have come across. I was looking for ways to mainstream my web page as I have been on it about 9 months and thanks to you I think I have a few idea’s on what I can do. I wanted it to A. get more veiwers and B. make some money down the road. Sounds like I now know a lot on how to do both! Thanks so much for your hard work I know this wasn’t easy and took time. I am glad I stumbled across this!
Wow, thanks for the information. I do Taxes on the side and I like what you mentioned about that you were passionate about helping others. My goal is not really to do more and more taxes. My goal is to help folks with Spreadsheets. I’ve taught night classes on Excel at our local College and now would like to offer a weekly for now BLOG on doing various Excel Spreadsheets. Maybe starting off with Lessons, then later as folks listen in, take on their requests and build them publicy for everyone to use.
Best Wishes and Thanks Much,
Neal
I’m really glad I found your article and your blog! Thanks alot for your hard work!
Bob, Wow! Thanks so much for the info! I am referring to this over and over again. A quick question: WordPress offers to sell the rights to a domain name through them ($17/year + $8 for privacy). Are there any benefits/disadvantages of doing it through them vs. the other sites (a la GoDaddy, etc.) that you mentioned?
Again, thanks soooo much! I will link this info as soon as I figure out how!
Really it is informative post. First thanks to author for sharing this valuable information. I am also a blogger, So it is very amazing post for me. I think every new/professional blogger needs this article, so please never delete it.
Wow… this was the most informative article I have read on the subject of building a successful blogging business. I must say that i appreciate you honesty and your value in ethics and morals. I have been pulling my hair trying to figure out what my niche would be. Your blog has giving me a clearer path to making that decision. Thank you and God Bless
A friend of mine send me the link to this article and inspired me to start a blog about game apps.
Thanks! Your post has been very helpful.
Thanks for the very detailed and informative info about earning money blogging.
I know this comment is coming very late but all the same I wish to express my profound gratitude for the information provided. I was about giving up on making money online but your info came just at the right time. I hope I will be able to implement most of the things you wrote. Hopefully I will write you again when I finally make it. Many thanks!
I’ve been doing this for a lot of years, so much of what you write here, for me, is now common sense. For a beginner blogger though who wants to make money at it, you’ve given some excellent tips (and even I found a couple I hadn’t thought about before :)), thanks!
Awesome! This is what i’m looking for. It helps me a lot to learn what blogging is. I will bookmark your page for future reference. Keep it up.
This is some great information you got here. I just started a blog last year then I dropped it for a few months because I had to focus on my 9-5 (getting married and having a baby on the way might have something to do with it as well). But for some reason, I picked it back up again a few days ago. Redesigned the whole layout and added some more content. Let me tell you this… adding the privacy policy DOES YIELD MORE from adsense. I didn’t believe it but in less than 24hrs. of adding the privacy policy, I can already tell the RPC is already way higher. Anyways, I just wanted to let you know that I am well on my way to becoming a full timer like yourself but I know it’s going to require a lot of work. Don’t worry, not gonna quit my day job. Thanks for all this info. It was very helpful!
I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help. You have made this process a lot easier. You would make a great teacher!
Thank you so incredibly much dear brother! I am a single mother with 4 kids and a lifetime of abuse, trying to scrape by with a min. wage job and the help of a very generous support group God brought into my life…the last 3 yrs have been getting my feet back under me and my head somewhat straight as to what life is meant to be, and learning who I am. One thing I am is a writer, and I have been wanting to blog about my experiences and help others, and earn a living, eventually, also. I struggle with depression and that has been an issue with getting moving on my site, but finally got brave and told a dear friend what I am trying and said friend has really stepped in with the support and the encouragement and the boot in my rear I needed *smile*. I have spent the last week learning, and now need to start writing…this article has been invaluable and I can guarantee I will be coming back to it for some time! Bless you for sharing what you have learned…hopefully I will be able to pay the bills soon! *smiles* The tools and links you provide…awesome. “He who gives to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will not be slack in repaying” This is a giving….Jesus, repay him well…..
Thank you for this site, this has been an inspiration to me to begin my blogging career. We fell into the same situation as I was downsized suddenly after spending 15 years in a corporate executive position and now I am going to attempt a try at blogging and doing something I have a passion about.
Thanks for the great article. I still have to do some exploring to start making $$$ off my blog and you’ve definitely helped give me the direction I need. My question is, are the CPC and CPM sites free to use? And once you sign up and add their widget or ad to your site, do you have to do anything else or does it automatically work for you (sorry if that question is confusing)? Thanks!
Absolutely fantastic article, Bob.
You packed in a ton of very useful information.
The only downside for me when reading such a thorough post on “How to make money with a Blog” is having to admit that I have so much more work to do.
Blogging can be one of the easiest and at times one of the most difficult things we can do(As far as a way of making money) depending on how we have been approaching it.
This is a great article! thanks.
I applied some of your tips and i think is working well.
You have no idea how much I have wanted to start a blog. Thank you for making the whole process so clear and with step by step instructions I really think blogging is my new best friend.
wow it’s a great and complete article…thank you very-very much 🙂
God bless you man…. Good info from the head to the heart.
Great blog Christian..have read it twice and need to come back for the next few days until I understand everything..so much new and beautiful wisdom to take in.
wowwww !!!
your article really inspiring me how to optimize to monetize them to reach some money from my hobbies …
thanks …
Well I have to admit that I’ve slacked off lately, and more or less put my blogging efforts on hold for a bit.
I really appreciate the time you spent, creating this article! It is true that there are many out there charging hundreds of $$$ for this valuable information. I have my own business and plan on blogging to draw attention to it, but really didn’t have a clue, and my startup funds are limited! I am one of the readers who found you with a Google search. I will bookmark and check your site periodically for both blogging and PF tips, and once I get my own site up, I will be sure to link with you. Be Happy, Be Healthy, and God Bless!
