To make sense of these 2,000 plus money Bible verses out there, I have compiled the most popular (in my research) 250 scriptures on a variety of money-related sub-topics.
They are indexed below for your convenience.
Disclaimer: The money bible verses in this list are the ones that I have found from my research and studies. I know there are a lot more out there. If you know of any that I may have missed, feel free to add them to the comments below. Thanks! Most scripture quotations are taken from the NASB, but there may be a few from other versions mixed in.

“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained two more talents.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.’ And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. ‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Nehemiah 5: 1-13
Now there was a great outcry of the people and of their wives against their Jewish brothers. For there were those who said, “We, our sons and our daughters are many; therefore let us get grain that we may eat and live.” There were others who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards and our houses that we might get grain because of the famine.” Also there were those who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and our vineyards. Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our children like their children. Yet behold, we are forcing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and some of our daughters are forced into bondage already, and we are helpless because our fields and vineyards belong to others.” Then I was very angry when I had heard their outcry and these words. I consulted with myself and contended with the nobles and the rulers and said to them, You are exacting usury, each from his brother!” Therefore, I held a great assembly against them. I said to them, “We according to our ability have redeemed our Jewish brothers who were sold to the nations; now would you even sell your brothers that they may be sold to us?” Then they were silent and could not find a word to say. Again I said, “The thing which you are doing is not good; should you not walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies? And likewise I, my brothers and my servants are lending them money and grain. Please, let us leave off this usury. Please, give back to them this very day their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money and of the grain, the new wine and the oil that you are exacting from them.” Then they said, “We will give it back and will require nothing from them; we will do exactly as you say.” So I called the priests and took an oath from them that they would do according to this promise. I also shook out the front of my garment and said, “Thus may God shake out every man from his house and from his possessions who does not fulfill this promise; even thus may he be shaken out and emptied.” And all the assembly said, “Amen!” And they praised the LORD. Then the people did according to this promise.

Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property. And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. “Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, “Then who can be saved?” And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

James 5:1-6
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure! Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. You have lived luxuriously on the earth and led a life of wanton pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and put to death the righteous man; he does not resist you.

For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. “To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. ‘And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.’ But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. ‘Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. ‘Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents.’ For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. Scriptures about Worry
Isaiah 51:12
I, even I, am He who comforts you, who are you that you are afraid of man who dies and of the son of man who is made like grass
Matthew 6:25
For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to to his life?
Matthew 6:31-33
Do not worry then, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?”‘ or “What will we wear for clothing?” For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Luke 12:22-29
And He said to His disciples, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing? Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life’s span? If then you cannot do even a very little thing, why do you worry about other matters? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying.

God bless you, am so happy about the scriptures on debt, because that has been a burden, but thank God for your work may God continue to strengten you in Jesus Name Amen.
This is s wonderful site, very helpful when I’m feeling frustrated or that things are not moving fast enough. Faith…Wisdom…Education…that’s what it’s all about. Thanks for reminding me.
This is ABSOLUTELY what I was looking for with regards to money matters and the Bible. Actually it is MUCH MUCH MORE than what I was looking for. I was hoping to find a few verses with regards to “acquiring money.” But once I started to read through the topics of money and some of the scripture verses, I realized that “money” is multifaceted. There are many many different and important aspects to money, not just acquiring it. I have been out of work (I’m a teacher) for two years and this is the starting of the third). Needless to say that I am in dire financial straits. But I believe with my entire being that finding these scripture verses on the topics that pertain to my current situation and then meditating on them and speaking them outloud, even writing them on cards and placing them around my house, will IN FACT create opportunities for me to drive out debt, bring in income, tithe, invest, save, pay back those who have assisted me, and NEVER be in debt again. The words of “thank you” are not enough, but they are all I have right now. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Where’s the quote about the camel going through the eye of the needle?
Or the quote about spiritual wealth over material wealth?
Which version of the the Bible are you using for these verses? NIV? ESV? NLT?
According to the top of this webpage, most of it is from the NASB.
I was reading the verses that you had about tithing and want to clarify something. First fruits have nothing to do with tithing. The first fruit offering was always given separate from the tithe. There is nothing in the bible that considers or even refers to the first fruit as a tenth or the tithe. The first fruit offering was a symbol of Jesus Christ as the first born from the dead. The tithe did not symbolize this.

I pray that thes will help
This is indeed a great resource. May God reward you abundantly

I have been thinking a lot about what God thinks about money. Lately I’ve been wondering if non-consumerism is actually biblical, your quotes helped me to wrestle this one down (for me).
Thank you for such a great resource on financially oriented scriptures.
Thank you!!!
Here are a few more I find applicable to the subject
Ex 20:15
Ex 20:17
Proverbs 30:9
God bless.
This is what i am looking for. Thank you very very much, you help me a lot to find this in the bible. May God continue to bless the work of your hands and your team.
I need scriptures on why it is important to be cleaned and organized and that does want us to be this way. I am trying to help someone understand the principle that cleanlness is close to Godleness. Thank you.
This is amazing. Thank you. I really appreciate this.

I would like copy your format and make available on our church website. Would you give us permission to do that? I know this was a lot of work. This is a great resource! Thank you.
And what of Matthew 20: The Laborers in the Vineyard?
I need to cite this blog for a researh paper. What is the name of the person who composed these scriptures?
@Talley check this page for more info… https://seedtime.com/about
Thank you so much for those inspiring scriptures.
God bless you.
You misquote Amos 4:4. You say tithing every three days, but The Word says tithing every three YEARS.
Gary it isn’t really a misquote – some translations show years, some show days… Amos 4:4
I checked, and you are right. Depends on translation.
Thanks for correcting me. I seem to learn something every day! Praise God!
Thank you!!! The website is awesome
Can you send me scriptures to help me for believing God for a House.

how come most of those who claim 2350 verses dealing about wealth/money/possessions don’t even have a list of book/chapter/verses on hand… it would really prove helpful for those who are doing their own research about this topic…
I like what Proverbs states about women:
Like merchant ships, she secures her provisions from afar.
She rises while it is still night, and distributes food to her household.
She picks out a field to purchase; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She is girt about with strength, and sturdy are her arms.
She enjoys the success of her dealings, at night her lamp is undimmed.
She puts her hands to the distaff, and her fingers ply the spindle.
She reaches out her hands to the poor, and extends her arms to the needy.
She fears not the snow for her household; all her charges are doubly clothed.
* * * *
She makes garments and sells them, and stocks the merchants with belts.
She is clothed with strength and dignity and laughs at the days to come.
Proverbs 31: 14-21, 24-25.
“The root of all evils is covetousness,” or the love of money, as it is in the Greek; a covetous man is always ready to sacrifice his soul for money. This truth is illustrated by the example of Judas, in the gospel; of Ananias and Saphira, in Acts; of Demas, mentioned by Saint Paul in his second epistle to Timothy.
My husband & I had loaned my sister $2500 from our home equity loan with the understanding that she would pay us back. It has been 5 years ago and to this day we have not received a cent. I have confronted her regarding this matter and she just spaces me off. My husband, myself & my sister are all born again Christians. Is it wrong to ask her for this money back in a letter? If so, can you give me some bibical advice how to write this letter in Christian love where I won’t hurt her?
Thank you for taking time and consideration regarding this matter.
In Christian Love, Julie
I know you sent this message 2.5 years ago. Dont know if the situation is still as it was. But the Word does say, that when you loan money, DO NOT ask for it back. Also it speaks about allowing yourself to be wronged. Check out Luke 6:30 & 35
This has been the best Website I’ve ever visited. may the Lord bless you with more wisdom and revelation that His Children may see the truth… His word will indeed never go back to Him void
As for believing God for a House, I’ve learnt something from Psalms 50:10 (A cattle on a thousand hills belongs to me), which could be applicable to material needs…Anymore scriptures on believing God for a Home?
God bless you abundantly
Thank you very much for your efforts and the information … as well as the comments from other readers. Very informative and well presented.

This morning and over the last couple of days i have come to discover that money has a holding on my life.I am still trying as hard as i can to break this hold off of my life.I really do not know how to manage my money and i must say that this info has been of help especially the part having the contentment scriptures. The challenge now is to live it out
There is a scripture in The New Testament that talks about a man or woman may go into the world to provide for their spouse I cant reall – can someone please send me if they know the quote?

I have always wondered what God had to say to treasurers as it relates to proper money management of church funds, and this list has clearly answered my questions. now I will furnish my treasurer with this info which enhance her accounting responsibility. thank you and God bless.
I really enjoyed studying on this website. It has encouraged me in so many ways. I cannot wait to begin sharing this with my husband. I would like to start a business and I was searching for scriptures to study in that area. This has been an added blessing to my life. I am bookmarking the site so that I will always have it close by right when I need it. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do!!!!
Thank you so much for studing and gathering these Bible verses. I made a list so that I may repeat them when need.
Thanks again
Thank you for this. God can help with anything.
You should include a link to the whole passage, as reading them out of the context they were meant to be read in could be detrimental. For example, you quoted Ecclesiastes 5:19
Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God.
But, just before the part you pulled out, it says in verses 12-13: “The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of the rich will not allow him to sleep. There is a severe evil which I have seen under the sun, riches kept for their owner to his own hurt”. Really, I’m just saying that people should be encouraged to read the whole context rather than just pulling verses.
thanks for buttressing the fact that the bible is all encompassing, addressing every aspect of our lives.
I did enjoy the time spent with the Word of God through you. I have had more than my share of unwanted times. I am in a place presently where I wish it was in a place to where my son was allowed to come to visit.
I stay with a person and I do so hope soon, I have a place I can call real Home.
I guess I have to dream in my mind, of the home I once owned and the home that is to come. It most definetly has to be a differnt place than where I am. I do not need riches, I just need to be away from where I am.
I will return to this site. If I can correctly, I will forward it to others.
I was inspired by these verse they really helped me to understand more of what god expects of me, and so i thank you. Please pray for me that i prosper more in life, body, and soul. and also that i succeed in my college career
Does the tithe need to be given to the church, or can it be used to help others outside of the church?
Bring the Tithe(a tenth) to the Storehouse: the gathering place of the Christians with a Pastor as the leader. So, no you do not get to choose to take the 10% and allocate as you please and be in compliance with scripture!
Is their scripture about this? I let a friend in church borrow money, they said they would pay me back as soon as she got back from her trip. It is now 20 days later. I really needed that money back, now my bills are all falling behind and late fees are racked up. I have asked for it, and yes, I understand she is going thru a hard time due to the loss of her brother. But fact remains, she said she would pay me back as soon as she got back. Which it ended up turning into everything being about me. Sorry, it ain’t, cause life still goes on despite her loss. Now I have to suffer cause of it, physically and spiritually. She ignores me, there has been no mention of anything. Communication has ceased. So now, I ask, how do I get my money back. Without causing conflicts.
If you can back it with scripture, all that I am feeling and going thru. Please fill me in.
Bible verses are treasures that last forever. Business, though involve with money, should still be guided by the eternal teachings like what we can learn from the Bible. I know God don’t want us to be poor. He want’s us to have splendor so that we can give honor and glory to HIM.
Please pray for my husband for financial breakthrough Last year no salary was in hand. this month he supposed to get but in between lot of bondages are there and also pray for his salvation
I just want to say thank you for organizing these verses and putting them in the categories. I am a missionary in Uganda, East Africa, and I am about to start a lunch hour Bible study in my town as an outreach to the business community. I plan to use your outline. So, again, thank you!
Thank you for the verses. I will remember this website as it has been very helpful dealing with my personal issues. Thanks!
I ditto everything that was said above. This really helped me with my something that I am doing regarding prayer and I am very appreciative of your hard work. You are awesome.
I hope you or anyone who reads this can help me locate scriptures regarding being a stay at home mom. Let me explain a little. I have been believing God to be a stay at home mom for sometime now and I have looked for scriptures so I can have a foundation to support my petition to Him. I haven’t really found anything. Do you know of any scriptures that I can use?
I appreciate your help
Dae
thanks for your encouragement.
My husband is tasked to dedicate to the Lord a newly-acquired truck for their dept. this afternoon. He needs Bible Verses to be the foundation of what he will do in the presence of his co-workers as testimony of God’s goodness. I readily found the references here. God bless you…
Greetings Brother… Thank you for researching and posting all the scriptural principles & materials on these important issues dealing with money. I know it’s a broad question to ask, but with regard to church planting, church finances, & good stewardship, in your opinion do the Scriptures provide more support for current giving (as in to help church members in need); or for saving up tithes & offerings for some future unknown & unseen expenses, ‘down the road,’ (eg, buying a new church building, paying a pastor, etc)?? If you could direct me to specific verses providing strong support for maintaining church savings accounts, (as opposed to ‘giving it all way!’) I’d REALLY appreciate it! Thanks again for what you’ve done here, & God bless!
To the posters writing about broken financial agreements, if you freely GIVE money to people without first wisely doing your own research about the person or group, scripturally you must take it as a loss and treat it as a learning experience. GIVE the money to them and DO NOT ask for it back. Acting like what is commonly known as an indian giver is NOT scriptural!
I taught i am a Bible Student but today i have become a learner.Thank you for this website and may God by his power take to the nest level.Thank you.
So good! I put some of these on the top page of my portfolio. My money is not “Finance’s Kyle”…but it is Kyle’s finances! And ultimately all a gift from the Lord!
thanks a lot for your wonderful work. I really needed to have a biblical perspective on money and I just found exactly what I wanted. I will use the verses as affirmations when praying and meditating. May God abundantly bless you a thousandfold!!!
What a great list! Thank you.
What a great and useful list of personal finance bible verses! I can see by the response what a blessing you have been to many.
Great collection of verses! Thanks for it. God is really great in His Words. In the Bible are the instruction of Christian living, let us refer to it every time.
Thanks indeed for the word work you’ve put in to Bless others. Much appreciated indeed.
Regards
Peteni
I will treasure this source, this can be really helpful and I will share it with my friends.
Thanks for these.
I would add Proverb 31:16 for investing
She goes to inspect a fiedl and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
this is a great site! could you please give me the bible’s view on giving financial handouts to people? i just read that Genesis 47: 15-19 is basis for not giving people money to get them out of a bind without asking for something in return. is that right?
Good references but the versus seem a little watered down. Try using a KJV for a more clear and accurate reading.
Out of all the information you have on this website concerning “Money in the Bible”, not one time was there anything mentioned about Exdous 30:11-16, And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
12When thou takest the sum of the children of Israel after their number, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul unto the LORD, when thou numberest them; that there be no plague among them, when thou numberest them.
13This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the LORD.
14Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the LORD.
15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
16And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the LORD, to make an atonement for your souls.
Jesus discusses this issue 3 times in the 3 years of His ministry on 3 separated situations. Ezra and Nehemiah is the primary focus of these instructions as well. As a matter of fact, 70% of the Books are the Bible discusses it too but you have not shared any enlightment/revelation on this Biblical subject/report?
Why have you not mentioned this in your report about: Money in the Bible?
Sincerely, Juan Sutton, Author – Another More Excellent Way, :This they shall give”
what an amazing piece of work. thanks and God bless you for this. i’d also consider including alongside worry and waste, the issue of laziness (or folding of the hands) which leads to poverty
Great job. I was actually searching for material on starting a private and this came up. Great.
What came up? Are you replying to my (Juan Sutton) question and concerns are you anwering another question in this blog?
What a great list! Thank you.soo much God bless you.
Excellent article as usual, well researched with great information! Thanks for your hard work!
thank you for compiling all these verses, makes an easy reference to Christians who are serious in managing the money God has entrusted to them.
Indeed you are a burning and shinning light to your world. God Bless you for your fruits over there!
GREAT ideas. Need to be reminded daily of them, how quickly we forget.
Ron Dearking
It isn’t easy to pick just one ChristianPF article since they are all great and I read them daily ! (thank You for a “job well done”). This one stands out in my mind as it’s Scriptural messages are well worth re-reading and applying to my life. Keep up the good works; I am most appreciative of your “words of wisdom and worth ” !!!
Thank you for your list. It saved me a lot of time!
Unlike another person who posted, I would not use the KJV but a newer translation for better understandability. KJV is great for word study (along with Strong’s) — and I use it some in my preaching; but the ESV is more word-for-word and understandable. The NLT can be useful sometimes when explaining things to a younger audience.
Dear Bob,
Thank you for your great work to help others. I am so glad that you are still going strong with this work. Nothing beats working on your passion. On this journey, I think you are richly rewarded. Keep up the good work for the salvation of the world depends on us all.
I am not sure if you remember me. I wrote many months back to ask you about how we can make our own blog a success for all. My name is Jimmy. Now I have started a personal development site. Hope you can visit and give me your thoughts on how I can make it better.
Thank you and learning from your site all these months.
Cheers
Thank you for sacrificing your time to do all this work. This is great dedication to Gods work.May God bless you and give you more knowledge to expand on the same.
God bless you in a special way.
Hi this is JSutton. Are you addressing your question/statement to me or to many?
Please, I would like to subscribe for newsletter or daily bible verse on finances
Man should not be slaves of money. We should not live just to earn money but to serve and worship God is our main purpose in Life. The verses in this blog are great references on how to deal with money.
Hi all.sunday I’m going to the pulpit share the offaring scripture.i have fear ,I dont know.i need help
Norah…God does not give you the spirit of fear, but of power love and a sound mind. I too have to do the offering tomorrow and I googled “tithes and offerings”. You might want to get yourself a good bible dictionary or concordance to look up the words in whatever offering scripture the Holy Spirit leads you to. Get the meaning behind the scripture (whether it be in the Greek or Hebrew). The Holy Spirit will be your guide. God Bless.
I found exactly what I wanted. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together for us.
This site really help me a lot to get a full understanding on how God wants me to prosper.
Thanks to all who prepared this site and I hope you guys add up some more scriptures on other areas as well.
May God bless you all !
Miramar, FL
Thank you so much Bob for all the efforts, may all the strength be restored.
These are really good! I am glad I came across your site!

Matthew 6:24
1 Timothy 6:10
Thanks so much for this scriptures………….. May God bless you abundantly.
This is an eye opener to more believers on the importants of money to the christiandom aswell as to know the best approach to money not as an end but a means to an end. Thank you so much for your effort.
Thank you so much for compiling this valuable resource on what God’s Word has to say about faithful stewardship of His Provision, & the proper place of $$$ in our Christian faith walk. I have enjoyed studying through this issue; however have one question/situation that I’ve not been able to find a satisfactory answer for: That is, re: a new church plant’s primary responsibility (ies) with regard to proper stewardship of financial resources & assets…. Specifically, can anyone point me to any Scriptures which either support or discourage a new church in purchasing a building/property, over using/giving away all of its resources to help support the poor and/or church members in need? …I’m asking because our church has recently run into just such a situation/conflict; the related issues are now creating a fair amount of controversy for some in the congregation. In short, we have an opportunity to purchase a church property & building(s), including the parsonage potentially at a very reasonable price… However some in our group feel this would be contrary to God’s Will & Word, which clearly speaks of the importance of caring for & supporting the brethren FIRST. Those individuals opposed to the idea of purchasing a permanent church building insist that doing so would definitely not be honoring to the Will of God, in light of the current financial burdens/needs that some of our members are facing. I note that the consensus among most in our group has been that we cannot remain/continue meeting where we have been for the last year, because of the nature of the church split issues which resulted in our group’s decision/effort to plant a new church in the area. So again, my question is this: Can anyone lead me to specific scriptures dealing with these types of issues?
Do you notices that verses on tithing do not include money… only produce, grains, meat, things from God? Tithing is not a NT principle. We are not commanded to tithe to the church or to anyone, not even God — because He sent HIs Son to die once and once alone. He bore our iniquity on the cross. Tithing was done in the OT by the Jews to the Levites who were chosen to conduct the service to bear the iniquity for Israel . Tithing is therefore blasphemous to the sacrifice that Jesus bore — for you when he paid the price for your sin (your iniquity). If you have salvation, you are free … and Gentiles were never instructed to tithe.
Lynn, you are right; Jesus expects more of His disciples in the NT. Just as He said in Matt. 5 that whereas in the OT murder was subject to the judgment, Jesus says just being angry at your brother without cause is subject to the judgment, and calling him a fool puts you in danger of hell fire; and looking at a woman is the same as adultery, as is divorce. Similarly, Matt. 6:21 says that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Treasure is anything important to you. When it comes to money for Believers, it may or may not be our treasure. If it is not our treasure, then we don’t really care who gets it. If giving it away helps other people see how wonderful our God is, we do so gladly. It doesn’t really matter to us anyway, so using it to build God’s kingdom is no big deal. We are probably looking for additional ways to bless Him as well. If money is our treasure, (as I believe it is for the majority of us) we spend it on things that are important to us. If our image is important, we spend it on our clothes, hair, nails, etc. If our family is important, we spend our money on making them happy. If our security is important to us, we may spend it on bills, insurance, and security systems. The same could be said for entertainment, eating, and being popular. However, if God is most important to us, then we will spend our money on things that are important to Him.
However, Jesus does specifically talk about tithing in Matthew 23:23. He says “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.” (NIV) Basically, He expects more than just getting a tenth of our income.
Jesus did indeed save us from our sins, not so that we could continue sinning, but so that we would be FREE to stop sinning, and not have to carry our old sins around with us.
If you understand what Jesus really did for you on the cross, tithing only 10% sounds really, really selfish. This has to be more than just a doctrine for you. Works and doctrine won’t get you into Heaven. Knowing Jesus will. I don’t tithe to get into Heaven or to convince God to do nice stuff for me. Instead, I look at 10% and ask myself, “If those people were expected to give 10% to God as a reminder of what He did for them BEFORE the cross, certainly that isn’t close to enough to what I should be giving. I can at least give 10% along with my time and talents in any way that could be used for my God’s glory. He’s just that wonderful!” It’s blasphemous to take the wonderful gift God gave in His son, and then ignore the needs of His people. How dare someone give in hopes of buying a place in Heaven, and how dare a person waltz in to my God’s house without so much as a thank you?!
@Esther that was good. Really good.
Thank you bob for a job well done. it is helpful. here is another verse that could be helpful. Prov. 13:22 “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
I love this site! I was wondering was there any scripture that i might have missed about giving foolishly or that its okay not to give? I am only referring to giving to people whom you know will misuse the money. I know its not wise i just was looking for scripture to back it up.
Tiffany, this is Juan. were you addressing your question to me or to many?

I am having problems with my marriage, i have been married 12 years, i just need to know where in the bible i can find advice on marriage, how to treat my husband, how to treat your wife, what are the rules, just everything.
Hey Lisa. I’m sorry to hear you’re going through a difficult time. Here are a few articles on ChristianPF that you should look over:
1. Money & Marriage: 7 Lessons I Have Learned So Far
2. 21 Financial Questions To Improve Your Marriage
3. 14 Rules For Money Fights With Your Spouse
I hope they help. Let us know how it goes.
Also Lisa, here’s a great article with a lot of Bible verses on various topics that can apply to marriage: Money in the Bible.
I am very appreciative of this website. I am opening an consulting business from grass-roots level and was looking for Biblical information about financial prosperity. Thank you so very much for organizing these scriptures. May the Lord so richly bless you for blessing us. This is so helpful. I greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.
Thank you sooooo much for this compilation. I am giving a talk to 30 girls aged 13-20 tomorrow and needed some scriptures. This is a lifetime of information and concepts! These young ladies are about to be empowered to the utmost…thank you Jesus!
These are great and thanks for taking the time to put them together. There is a saying “in business be men”. Do you know what scripture that references?
Dear Lords servants, in these days I prepared a notes- how to raise and manage the money according to the word of God- your nots are more helpful for me to prepare the notes, may the Lord help you more
This is an absolutely wonderful collection of verses. I will be using this website as a reference often as I work on my blog. It will help me stay focused on what is truly important and that is G-d.
What is the scripture that talks about returning to your home after a period of time and the tenants have to leave after a sear ton period of time and that the original owner may take once again possession? Could be related to spiritual possession of ones body.
I’ve been trying to decide whether or not I should give back to God, all the money that I make this summer, and I have pretty much told my entire family that I would be doing so. I now realize that it is between me and God that I give all that I have or that I give him nickles and dimes. Not once does the Bible say that, when giving to God, you should hold back just a little so that you can make sure you can survive. I along with many others, I’m sure, who have commented on this site, live in America. I think that even many of the poorest people in America, are still richer than most of the rest of the world. For those of us in the so called “middle class” or higher, we are filthy rich compared to the rest of the world. Really! Look up the statistics of how much the average American makes compared to the rest of the world. The cost of being a disciple is leaving everything behind, selling all that we have, and following Jesus! Complete and total surrender is demanded of us! The treasures that Jesus mentions, every time he mentions, are not earthly treasures. When we give to the poor, cloth the naked, feed the hungry, treasures are in heaven-not earth. At the same time, when we do surrender all of our money to Him (or when we give more than we really should or can to “survive.”) the Lord tells us in Malachi 3:10 that we can test God to see if he truly does provide for us! Rather than testing God in this, be a cheerful giver, not expecting anything in return. When we give to a point where we must depend on God for provision, we enter a new level of love. We must depend on our Lord and Savior for all our needs. We cannot be lukewarm givers. We cannot pick and choose commandments that Jesus has given us as to which ones to follow and which ones not to follow! Be a disciple of Christ and give with a cheerful heart! For our treasure does not lie in our extremely short lives. It is in heaven, and this is what we can look forward to, no matter how hard this life gets.
Very Simple: Knowing and doing what God says is the key to success.
God’s formular for prosperity & success is located in – Joshua 1:8, NIV
“Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Thank you very much for the scriptures..You work is appreciated.I have a question regarding the tithes though,How often should we pay our tithes.I know most people do it every month,Is there a scripture in the bible that confirms so?Secondly I’m not attending church but I would love to pay my tithe,Can I choose any church and deposit the tithe or Is compulsory for me to go to the church and pay the tithe?Your response will be highly appreciated.Thank you.
thank you very much for the scriptures, may God continue giving you wisdom so that through you more families should be saved. to me it is very helpful because i myself have a problem in budgeting. as a family,(me and my husband) can draw the budget plan when i have been given money i do buy things out of budget which is not right and with this my family can not save.
thanks & God bless for this amazing compilation- what a gift !!! 🙂
I have a question that I have been trying to get answered… regarding a loan to a fellow believer, do these same principles apply to providing a mortgage loan? My brother has a home that is for sale and a fellow christian cannot obtain a home loan due to credit issues (they currently rent the home from h im). He owns the home outright and has offered to carry the note at an 8% interest rate with no money down. In this market, it is a good interest rate based upon their credit an no money down. in addition, he is going to pay the closing costs for them since they do not have the cash to do so. they have now come back and said that as a christian, he should not charge interest. Of course, he is not obligated to sell his property to them. Please help!
P.S. even though interest rates are low, 2nd chance financing is available at 8.99% interest with 20% down, no exceptions so he is offering a good deal. Hard money loans start at 12% interest with 30% to 50% down. I am a Realtor and have researched all of the options on financing. He is offering a fair interest rate to these people.
This is a business proposition. Nearly all of us have had to ask for help at times. Those we ask are under absolutely no obligation (other than the obligation to be Christian) to help. If we ask for help, we don’t put the conditions on the help received. Consider the 8% interest a reserve fund to repair the house and make it available to sell to the next person. That is coming. These people are trying to take advantage of someone who is trying to help them. They are operating from a selfish view it appears. They will have no problem in leaving the property in a run-down condition when the time comes. They have no skin in the game. If they can’t make a down payment they also will likely not make payments on time. Does your brother want to become a collection agency? Does he enjoy listening to excuses? These people have, more than likely, not followed any Christian principles in handling money. They are not likely to start now. “Christians” who take advantage of fellow Christians by appealing to to that party’s Christianity are not being Christlike. Avoid a lot of heartache—don’t do this.
Thanks for this exhaustive list.
Kingdom Blessings
Great response Tim! Thanks for adding the prophetic voices to these ones of priestly control. I also think the context of some of the passages in this actually give them the opposite meaning to that for which they are used here, particularly the Matthew 25:14-30 passage. I hope Bob can add them to the mix!
I love ur website. It reminded me of a verse I found years ago and have been trying to find again. I think it is in Romans but I do know it is in the New Testament. It of course concerns money but more in the providing of funds to support others in the projects. Similar to what corporations do when they set aside yearly funds to be donated to churches, food for the poor, and organizations that relie on gifts/funds to operate to help those in need for various reasons. The only other thing I can remember about the verse is that is says this kind of payment/funding/provisions/supply/gift .. is hard and/or without earthly reward. I would love if you could find it. I cannot remember if the way I remember the verse was KJ or NIV or some other variation of the Bible. Any hints in being able to find this verse would be greatly appreciated. <3
These are a great reminder, thank you!

To work I’d add..
Eph. 4:28
Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.
Prov. 16:3
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
May your labour of love never be in vein,
For the time spent may God restore it greatly in your life,
And may the abundance of God’s love rest heavily upon you.
God bless you.

I am so moved and touched on these scriptures about money. They are so awesome and have taught me a lots. I do want to know about the love of money being the root of all evils. Because lot of Preachers these days are not preaching salvation message but rather preaching prosperity messages so their churches should have more members and their tites and offering should increase more. Also they are taking prosperity seeds from members to enrich themselves while the main messages from the Bible are left out.
Again I do want to thank and appreciate you for your hard studies and researched you went through. These sources of informations are so rich and they have become a great help to me in my studies and books that I am writing. God richly bless you in more studies!
Love it! Thanks so much!
